Sherk pushes his opponents more than most.
The analogy I've come up with is that Penn has been training for a 30 minute jog.
Sherk will try to take drag him along for a 25 minute run.
Of course Penn could surprise us all.
But so could Sherk.
Saying "Penn can last 25 minutes matching Sherk's pace" to me seems a lot like Positive's hated phrase, "Anything can happen."

We'll see. If there's anyone his trainers would worry about as far as pace, it's Sherk. I think this is a big reason they brought in a guy like Faber who never tires. If he says Penn will be ready and he was living and training with him then I believe it. I think Penn is actually understating his own cardio by saying he has just enough to put sherk away. Sherk is going in there with one gameplan that he's made abundantly clear.

There are so many ways to lose a mma fight. One good punch, one good knee and the odds are out the window. And, contrary to what you said, it has nothing to do with luck.

Anything can happen, we get it. The point is, it's not too likely given Sherk's track record he'll finish Penn. He has little power in his hands, short arms (I doubt he'll connect much if at all on the feet), and has never show a propensity for kicking. Saying nothing is "luck" is just a play on words, life is luck, depending on how you define it.

That wouldn't seem like a sensible use of coin, not at all.
Other than manual labor and USO-esque missions, torture/intimidation is about all I can imagine him being very useful for.
Perhaps he is brilliant and he'll head up an encryption team.
Little known fact: HMC is a math whiz.

I never much know whether or not to believe fighters.
We've heard plenty of guys say they're training this or that.
Sometimes it's true and evident.
Sometimes it's true and not evident.
Sometimes it isn't true.
Also, for their fights with Chuck, Babalu and Tito (the second time) trained boxing like crazy.
That didn't go well.
There is a chance that:
Chuck : Striking :: Sherk : Cardio
(analogies are fun)
Really, I'm just a very skeptical poster.
I very seldom speak of certainties.
If most people are saying a fight is 90-10 in favor of a guy, you'll see me giving 60-40 odds.
So, threads like this bring out my skepticism.

One thing I do believe is that Penn is going on record saying he's going to beat Sherk and beat him badly. Sherk hasn't done that. Even fighters as confident as Penn don't often guarantee victory. Maybe it's Sherk's nature not to do that and maybe he's not ready to make that claim. I just find it interesting to listen to all the pre-fight speeches and see what you ca determine about that fighters mindset going in. Maybe something, maybe nothing but you can def read between the lines occasionally when a fighter say "I'm going to push the pace" "I'm going to show him I came to fight" rather than saying I'm going to win. Pellegrino did the same thing with Nate although I would've picked kurt going into that fight. He gave the "win, lose or draw" speech, which is never good. Maybe that's just me...Tito gave the same speech for his machida fight.
