Sherdog Pickem Championship 1: The Beginnings

SHERDOG PICKEM CHAMPIONSHIP

Intro
That's right sherdog loyalists...you asked for it and now you've got it! No longer will you be forced to venture elsewhere to participate in pickem-style MMA fantasy competition. I introduce to you Sherdog Pickem Championship (SPC), a grueling competition in which MMA fans are pitted against each other to test their ability to predict fight winners and the fashion in which they triumph.


Scoring/Format
Fights will be scored using prioritized pickem scoring, receiving points based on rank, correctly predicted winner (4 pts.), method of victory (3 pts.), and round of victory (3 pts.). Pickems will be submitted in the following format, ranking fights based on confidence of predicted winner (using UFN 8 as example):

8. Evans/strikes/2nd (Most confident pick...everything correctly predicted so 8 pts for rank + 4 pts winner + 3 pts method + 3 pts round = 18 pts)
7. Herman/strikes/3rd (Correct winner, incorrect method and round...7 pts rank + 4 pts winner = 11 pts)
6. Guida/decision (Incorrect winner = 0 pts. Note that even though fight ended in decision, need to predict winner to score)
5. O'Brien/strikes/3rd (Points awarded for rank, winner, AND round...fights ending in decisions are scored as 3rd rd endings)
4. Lister/submission hold/3rd
3. Fisher/strikes/1st
2. Burkman/submission hold/1st
1. Pointon/strikes/1st (Least confident pick)

Also notice we are using strikes (to include KO, TKO, and submission due to strikes), submission hold, and decision as our outcome descriptors.


SPC 1: The Beginnings

Deadline for Pickem Submission: 1:00 AM EST February 3rd

In this, the crowning event of the SPC, SPC fighters will be matched up in one-on-one contests to begin making a name for themselves by putting wins in their SPC official record. You may challenge other available participants...otherwise I will randomly assign you an opponent. This style of one-on-one betting will continue for a number of SPC events until the pickem forerunners begin to distinguish themselves. At this time, we'll introduce the Sherdog Pickem Championship Title and solidify some contendership criteria.

PLEASE, for your sake, do not publically post your picks. Simply reply in the thread if you're interested in competing in this event and I will compile the list of entrants and post it here.

Pickems for SPC 1 are to be PM'd to irishman (in my PM box) by NO LATER than 1:00 AM EST February 3rd. In future events, this is when I'll post the "Tale of the Tape" for each individual fight.

The participant with the best score at SPC 1 becomes the first ever Sherdog Pickem Champion.

TUS is a Sig/Av Bet Thread contest and the winner gets a title shot for the Sig/Av Title.

Also, I probably didn't make this clear but Sig/Av records and Pickem records are to be kept separate...as the Titles and threads will remain separate.

Isn't it a bit quick for a championship? I think you should wait... until everyone has at least 5-10 bets. I think it'd be more legit that way, something to consider.

If we put the SPC title up for grabs on the first event, the high scorer of said event will be the first ever SPC champ.

If we were to wait, I'd just match everyone up in one-on-one matches for the first couple until the superior pickem "fighters" began to distinguish themselves. I'm not opposed to doing it in either style.
