Let's be fair to Rickson. He doesn't need to fight Sakuraba to retain his repuration. He was one of the best, if not the best, BJJ player in the world for many years and he was able to use that BJJ skill to easily beat much bigger opponents who didn't have that knowledge. Saying he needs to fight today for it to mean anything is like telling Sugar Ray Leonard he needs to fight Bernard Hopkins.

I saw the point in this fight until Royce beat Saku, but now what would be the point?

This made me laugh. Yeah, as much as I love thinking about this sort of thing (and to some extent still live in the past), it really is too little too late. Especially since Royce already sort of beat Sak (granted, it was on drugs). Also, I have to admit I would cry if Rickson lost.

Rickson has nothing to prove. But it seems like money eventually trumps personal pride and dignity. These guys are trying to set up sweet retirements and a good life for their kids (the latter is not a bad thing, obviously).

Royler once talked about a recent fight (can't remember if it was Sudo or Kid) - he threw out some ungodly monetary figure, knowing the promoters wouldn't go for it...they called him back and gave him the money. Embarrassing loss for Royler...he admits it was the biggest mistake of his career - doing something for money.

Sakuraba by arm breaking kimura, or big KO.

Rickson wont fight though, he will demand an enormous amount of money so he wont have to state the real reason he wont fight.
