Reverse Racism in MMA?

I am no whistle blower or all that sensitive to racism(thinking that every thing is racist) but I have been thinking about both PRIDE and the UFC lately with this bullshit type of cards they are putting on.

Instead of PRIDE putting on a AWESOME card for the American fans we are forced to watch fights in which its American vs World bullshit. Yeah Ok I understand what they are trying to do but NOBODY wants that. All we want as MMA fans is good fights. Lil Nog vs Wandy could have EASILY been a better fight then one with Dan Henderson just because he is American.

The same goes for the UFC. There UFC 70 card is getting to be just retarded. Because its in the UK doesn't mean that the people of UK want to see only there home town fighters. That does not make good MMA.

They pull this shit with other cards as if where the fighter comes from is more important then the talent itself. Maybe its not "reverse racism" but it is mildly offensive for both orgs to think so less of the fans that they would rather appeal to fans by putting shitty Ross Pointin(sp) in yet ANOTHER fight just because he is a resident of the UK.

Does this bother anyone else? If this is what we have to look forward too lets just hope we don't have any events in Greenland.

Well, that's more based on nationality than race but you make a valid point. I personally think that Pride is missing the boat, thinking that Americans only care about US fighters (and then they are missing the boat times two by thinking that having a Pride fighter destroy an american that he US fan will love the foreign Pride fighter).

I can agree with that. I didn't know how to express it but I think nationality was what I was looking for.

1) You aren't FORCED to do anything
2) Established MMA fans will get Pride PPVs regardless of whether they are here or in las vegas, pride is going after the casual fight fan and are using American fighters to relate to this demographic.
3) Why in the hell are you complaining about UFC 70????? There isn't even one single match confirmed for that and you are already bitching?

Quit whining.

you gotta understand that they made their matchups from a business standpoint

-most of the audience will be comprised of random average joes who dont know many of the fighters. to them, the whole idea of world vs america will be alot more appealing than silva vs some brazilian dude theyve never heard of
-i agree silva vs nog would have been a far better matchup but what can ya do

its still gonna be a pretty good card

1. Lists are for tools

2. Your list proves #1

3. If you stopped taking everything I said so litteral then it might make sense.

4. You might get every PRIDE card but that doesn't mean EVERY PRIDE fan feels the same. Infact, I don't so you're wrong.

5. No I am not bitching about the fights moron, as they haven't been announced but its obvious to anyone with an IQ that doesn't rival that of a shoe(leaves you out) whats going on. Its obvious that they are loading the card up with people from the UK.

It's not racism necessarily. It's just that Japanese orgs don't know anything about marketing to American audiences. Same reason the UFC never made much of a splash in Japan. An organization marketed toward Western fans will fail in Japan.

K-1 also failed in America. They had no idea how to market here.

As for the UFC, most of the fighters are American. The organization doesn't have much choice in the matter. They have to use their whole roster.

In PRIDE's situation, racism is a misnomer. It's nationality with PRIDE. They want to show US versus the world, not "angry middle class white guy" vs the world. You are right though, the pretense behind the fight isn't very engaging and doesnt give credit to the average fan's intelligence.

I think UFC 70 is something a little different. Maybe i'j jsut biased. But i think the cultural ties to the US and UK are still pretty strong, so doing a US vs UK thing is more acceptable? I dont know honestly.

I like how you titled it "reverse racism?" and then go on to say "maybe its not reverse racism"

That's funny b/c I don't think you know what the term means....hahaha lol

They only have Bisping and Pointon on their books from the UK. That's enough for two of eight/nine fights.
