Nobody argues with the fact that you need to be very skilled to become a good pro wrestler. Barnett, Saku, etc. are examples of great Pro Wrestlers. But when you see guys like Hogan, Lex Luger and others who only relied on being physically gifted, with very little wrestling ability, it makes you wonder.

Pro wrestlers are not athletes they can be very athletic but athletes compete against each other. Wrestlers plan out what they are going to do and then act it out in a ring. Your not in a sports org, your in a theatre group.

An athlete by definition is someone who is athletic.

I like wrestling and all, have a lot of respect for those guys. But, its getting to be kinda like a male soap opera. TOO much dialogue and drama. I miss the OLD WCW and WWF. That is why I've been completely converted to an MMA fan.

My argument against most pro wrestlers not being able to cut it in MMA has never been based on lack of athleticism. It more relies on the overall lack of actual combat training, and questioning which one of them can take a hit.

MMA at it's top tier does not only require a good athlete. It also requires a mentality that not every athlete has.

To go out and put your body on the line for peanuts takes someone with a little more backbone then guys like Goldberg.

Well, obviously they are going to train for MMA....they aren't going to go in and start trying to do atomic drops and stuff. The japanese wrestlers train catch wrestling/mma as practice for MMA as the strong style of japan is almost identical to pancrase.

A north american pro-wrestler is obviously going to train before they fight. I know, I am one.

I am not saying they won't train. But training for a year, is quite a bit different from the guys growing up with MMA.

Almost all of the pro-wrestlers that have turned into MMA fighters have some sort of martial arts background stemming from BEFORE pro-wrestling.....whether that be amateur wrestling, judo, karate, kickboxing, etc. People progress at different speeds. For instance, if someone like Brock Lesnar who was a great amateur wrestler decides to train MMA, he already has one of the big 3 skills on lockdown. Factor that on top of training with top MMA trainers (like Miletich and Royce) and the fact that he is in great shape, and 1 or 2 years of training is more than enough time for someone of that calibre to give pro-mma hws some competition.
But I don't want to turn this thread into a Brock thread. There is too many of those as it is.
