Pride is better, and I'll tell you why

You all bring up some good points. I think we are all over-analyzing the situation as fans. I follow MMA every day and I purchase all the UFC and Pride PPV's. What I care about is watching great fights, being entertained, getting my money's worth, seeing the best fighters in the world. What the fighters care about is money, respect, opportunity, and making a decent living as a mixed martial artist.

In those basic categories, Pride is superior. Their PPV's are always cheaper by $5 in the US. The fighters, as you've mentioned, are at a higher level overall. The PPV's are longer, with more fights. The production value of the show is much more lavish and thorough. (And i prefer a ring, but that's irrelevent)

Also, the fighters are paid more money and they're respected more by Japanese/Korean fans (who don't act like bar-fighting red-necks) How many fighters left a lucrative career in Pride to come to the UFC. I can't think of any, save Anderson Silva, but he wasn't good enough to get a title shot in Pride (which is telling about their middleweight talent) However, all the hammerhouse guys, barnett, wanderlei silva, mezger, dan henderson, carlos newton, the list goes on and on...all came to pride and stayed there. Many of them have been quoted, saying the difference in pay is so remarkable that the choice is basically made for them. Pride fighters are used in mainstream commercials in Japan for god's sake, not the ridiculous Xyience campaign, which is only on spike tv.

To sum things up, I prefer Pride because I save money on the PPV's, I see more fights per card, the fighters are better, and I'm glad to see the fighters making a good living for themselves. Cuz isn't that what we all care about? FIGHTS AND FIGHTERS! Fuck Sakikabara, Fuck Dana White, they are suits, CEO's who like to hog the camera ala Vince McMahon. Leave the business aspect of MMA to people who have a vested professional interest. (use of freak shows, mike tyson, shammy's 3rd tito fight? all to bring in more viewers) For me, and probably most of you, we should only care about the quality of the MMA we watch.

P.S. I still love me a good UFC title fight!

I almost started a Pride vs UFC thread myself, I think the issue can use more exploration. This way thier be a definative answer that everyone will agree upon.

you idiot, you really think this subject needs more exploration, are you kidding me? its the dumbest arguements on this hole website. pride/ufc, different rules, different countries, ones in a ring and the other in a cage. it should only be discussed if they merge together or if they have pride vs ufc, other then that its all speculation.

Neither is the best, each has advantageous over and weaker qualities from the other.

Another Pride elitist thread. Big surprise.

I think Pride and the UFC each have thier own unique advantages in terms of structure, rules and talent. As it stands now, is Pride a little better than the UFC- probably. Does this mean that you need to create yet another elitist Pride thread to remind everyone of this fact- NO.
