Maybe he could have at least tried? Thats all people are asking, is that he be a little more aggresive, nobody is questioning his ability.
My point with Silva is not that they should be the same fighter, but that being passive is NOT neccesarily part of being highy technical and skilled. Same with BJ, same with Thiago Silva, same with Wand.
By being content to let Tito stick around in the fight he DID reliquish control of the fight, it was very brief and the sub wasn't as close as some people think, but Tito did end up sweeping him from the bottom, something Machida could have completely stopped had he been agressive.
My point is that people who think he fought a boring fight aren't critical of his skills, I can understand somebody who isn't skilled being boring because they HAVE to, but when somebody has the skills Machida does, theres no excuse for being that passive. Letting guys like Sam Hogar and Vernon white last 3 full rounds is a choice when you are as good as Machida.
Machida gains absolutely nothing by being so passive, it isn't safer thats for sure, because he could easily turn up the aggresion just a little and still be just as hard to get to. In addition to being frustrating to watch, its actually MORE DANGEROUS to be so passive because that other guy can always land something lucky or unexpected, and that was proven tonight, hopefully Machida learns from it.
All people are asking for is that he USE the skills its so clear that he has, nobody is saying he doesn't have them. All he has to do to be a fan favorite is TRY.
