His stance is different than the typical MMA / kickboxer's stance, which throws guys off.
Additionally, he feints, retreats, and then counter-attacks from that stance in a way that minimizes the amount of damage he takes while hitting his opponents from weird angles.
Unlike the typical kickboxer or MMA striker mentality / strategy, he virtually never just stands directly in front of an opponent or "in the pocket" and slugs it out.
He also works TMA takedowns....the ankle trips and Aikido type throws that virtually nobody else does.
Watch his last fight; he paces and times his opponents, then comes in, feints, waits for the rush or the counter, and then retreats back out at oblique angles and counters the counters.
He's also content to just outpoint his opponents by landing 1 or 2 shots out of the type of exchanges that I just described and then totally back out and start over again....as opposed to most fighters that try to get in there and slug away, or try to land 3 or 4 or more shots....which increases the chance of a KO, but also is more dangerous and forces you to take more damage in the process.
