I'd say more like 5 years. Machida is 30 already and the probability of him performing to the age of 40 is very low. As I said before, his game needs speed, quickness and lightning reaction time to succeed. Most athletes that rely on the speed game usually have a shorter shelf life than athletes that utilises power or guile.

I could go and google up a whole lot of athletes to support my "more like 5 years" claim but I can't really be bothered at the moment. Might do it later. Anyway, good thread.

I think that a style like Machida's can be enjoyed by somebody who likes Rampage's style. That's why I am also a fan of Anderson Silva and Yushin Okami. Sometimes I enjoy seeing a variety of styles in MMA.

I'd love to see him play with Rampage all the 5 rounds to the most dominant UD of all time, just to shut Quinton up for a while. Lyoto is a classy and highly skilled fighter, everyone looks bad against him.
But talking real, it's obvious that no one can just play with Page, but I think that Machida has a good chance at beating anyone at 205 right now.

I disagree. Once again, the fact that he takes so little damage in his fights greatly extends his ability to retain those skills as he ages. I think, as I state in my OP, that he's going to be around for a LONG time.

It's very possible. As I've said in this thread and in others as well, I think that Machida really needs to be tested against a strong, powerful wrestler who has the potential to take him down and put him on his back. Tito is the logical, next step in his evolution as a fighter, and if he were to beat Tito, it would represent his entrance into the elite contenders of the division and mark him as someone who is legitimately now take seriously as competing with the top 5 in the division for the #1 contender spot.

im a big Tito fan, but IMO outside of Chuck Machida could be a terrible style matchup for Ortiz and it would be a great fight.

Or Tito will manhandle the fuck out of him.

Regardless, respect to Machida.
I don't necessarily think that he's ready for Rampage if he beats Tito, but it would mark his entrance into the top 5 and stake his claim as a legitimate contender for the #1 contender spot.

I've also been watching him for quite a while and love to watch his fights. It does annoy me when people say his style is boring. He is so fluid, smooth and technical it's unbelievable. He brings a good eye to the TMA's like Karate or even, like myself, Tae Kwon do. Shows that all the stuff that those of us that learned certain techniques over a long time can use them effectively with a good ground game and takedown defense.

man, i remember back at inoki bom ba ye2003 where i was hearing Rich Franklin was going to fight on the new year's show against this... Ryoto guy who was like 3-0 at the time.

I end up checking the results on the spoilers pbp forum to find out that Rich got KTFO!! I was like what the hell???

Ended up seeing the match shortly and saw how he tooled Rich. But I have to say that i wasn't really jumping on this guy's wagon cause he fought a couple pure k-1 guys then a pudgy BJ Penn.

Funny cause he was like 3-0 in the UFC before fighting Sok and nobody still expected much from him, but now that he schooled him, its like he just took Sok's fame! (like some highlander shit)

Anyways, I'm still skeptical about his potential "legendary" status at lhw. But I'm really looking forward to him having some big names in the future. It will be refreshing to have his name throwned into the mix among the greats, cause i really wasn't expecting him to be a top contender.

Oh, and to the TS, good thread
