I agree in general about playing games with the belt, and with the double edged sword that is TUF. However, Rampage won't be defending for so long because he seriously fucked up his hand in the fight with Hendo and needed that time to recover.

Still, I don't think that Forrest deserves the title shot.

However, even as much of a Machida nut hugger as I am, I don't think he's ready to face Rampage yet. He needs more fights against the elite, top echelon of the division to work his way up. He has the potential to beat those guys, but I think he still has to earn his title shot AND gain the experience of fighting those tough, top guys.

yes i agree. machida reminds me of bernard hopkins. your point about people not necessarily understanding what they are seeing is exactly what us b-hop fans have always said. I think machida will be a legend in the future, he's already kind of an underground legend, but I think he will go on to do some pretty important and impressive things in his career.

I don't think anyone is saying that he is a straight-up karate fighter, more that he has effectively utilized many karate techniques that had never really been successfully utilized in MMA before.

Machida definetely has my vote for being LHW's #1 Contender...But I swear there was a point where Soku ROCKED him...So I would like to see his Chin in action against a slugger like Liddell...

First, very good post.

Second, I love watching him. He's a very smart fighter.

well put. For example, when you watch the fight against Nak, he actually pulls off a beautiful Aikido throw...in MMA. I was like "did you just fucking see what he did??"

It was almost as good as when Chonan used the classical karate / kung fu scissor take down against Anderson Silva and got a flawless heel hook out of it.

Hackleman already said he wants no part of Machida. Says Machida is too difficult to prepare for.

the thing that impresses me the most about machida is the accuracy of his punches. i have never seen anyone with such straight punches

If Machida can get past Tito he deserves a title shot. Regardless of bad performances and/or loses to Chuck and Randy Tito is stylistically one of the most underated and battle tested veterans @ 205 today.

im a big Tito fan, but IMO outside of Chuck Machida could be a terrible style matchup for Ortiz and it would be a great fight.

Or Tito will manhandle the fuck out of him.

Regardless, respect to Machida.

I think he's awesome and he's one of my fav's. That being said I dunno if he'll be able to handle Tito. We saw Soko take him down and I think Tito will do the same, cept I can't see him sweeping Tito. I think if Tito wants he could grind out a UD.
