Liddell is ovverrated and his resume proves it!
You've heard it before, but I'll say it again, Chuck Liddell is the most overrated fighter in MMA history! If you don't believe me just look at his resume from his past 10 fights, any true MMA fan will see that it's not very impressive to say the least. In his last 10 fights in the UFC Liddell has beaten only wrestlers & B-level opposittion. But 0 strikers! The closest thing to a striker Lidell has faced in the UFC is Vernon White, a fighter most have never even heard of.
However in Pride FC the competition is way better and Chuck knows this first hand, in the '03 Pride MW Grand Prix it was not as easy for Liddell as it is with the UFC fighters. Although Chuck won his first match against Alistair Overeem, it was tough goings as Overeem rocked Liddell badly and had him cut and bleeding before Overeem gassed and Liddell went in for the kill. In the second round of the tourny Chuck faced Rampage and was thoroughly beaten, Rampage out struck Liddell and won easily. Let's just say that if Liddell were in Pride instead of the UFC he wouldn't be the invincible force he appears to all the newbies.
Here is Liddell's resume in the UFC from his past 10 fights:
Tito Ortiz: A good fighter and I cannot deny that, but he is a wrestler who in both fights with Liddell made the mistake of trying to out strike a striker. While Tito is a very quality opponent to anyone, he is a terrible boxer! Styles make fights and Tito is tailor made for Chuck, not to mention the fact that he is scared to death of him.
Renato "Babalu" Sobral: Babalu is a B level fighter who has beaten nobody in the UFC and I do mean NOBODY! His biggest win came against an old Maurice Smith 7 years ago. Babalu is very overrated!
Randy Couture: My favorite fighter & the classiest guy you'll ever meet, but also very overrated, his record is 14-8 and since losing to Liddell in their '05 rematch he's only beaten Belfort & Van Arsdale which isn't saying much. I hate to say it, but if Randy were in Pride he wouldn't have a prayer to fight in the HW division like he is doing in the UFC and while he would be a contender in the MW division because of his sheer power, he would have severe difficulties winning a belt.
Vernon "Tiger' White: This is a C level fighter at best and how he even got the opportunity to fight Chuck Liddell
is beyond me. For Christ sakes, Vernon only had 1 fight in the UFC prior to fighting Liddell and his overall record is 11-9, nuff said.
Jeremy Horn: In their first fight Horn actually defeated Liddell, but in the rematch it was all Chuck beating up on a small 185 lb MW trying to fight a huge 205 lb LHW and it just was a case of too big and too strong. Before Horn lost to Liddell in the rematch, he lost to a pathetic Elvis Sinosic who sports a proud 6-9 record. That's insane to lose to Sinosic and then expect to beat the LHW Champion Liddell in your next match.
Vitor Belfort: The biggest underachiever in MMA history! Vitor has made a career off his 1998 destruction of Wanderlai Silva when he created a 44 second highlight reel of a rapid punches one after another while knocking Silva from one side of the ring to the other. Since then Vitor has been anything but a "phenom" and should think about changing that moniker.
That's it and that's all! If people think that is an impressive resume they are crazy! The UFC fighters in the LHW division are so inferior to the Pride fighters it's pathetic. I use to not believe this, but as I learned the sport of MMA it was obvious how superior the Pride fighters are to the UFC fighters of the same weight class. The Pride fighters that would give Liddell a serious fight are easy to find unlike the UFC fighters. In Pride Lidell could be defeated by Arona, Henderson, Nogueira, Shogun, Ninja, Silva, etc. And Liddell would not have it as easy with Overeem this time around either as he was only 22 years old in their fight.
I'm a UFC guy simply because my buddies have bought into the marketing and hype of the UFC and I can't get them to understand that Pride is on another level. I try to tell them it's all hype, a great example is Ortiz vs. Shamrock or Hughes vs. Gracie, any true MMA fan knew these fights were a joke. Hell, they might as well feed Liddell a fighter like Oleg "The Russian Bear" Taktarov while they're at it. The UFC has now marketed Rampage as the best fighter ever to come from outside the UFC, but they don't tell the fans that Rampage was absolutely dismantled by Shogun Rua and Wanderlai Silva both. I'm not taking anything away from Rampage as I believe he is a terrific fighter, I'm just demonstrating how weak the UFC 205 lb division really is. The best LHW fighter in the UFC division is Liddell by far, and Rampage absolutely destroyed him by out striking him and over powering him, there were knockdowns, takedowns and finally a corner stoppage. I believe however that Liddell has improved since that fight and is also much better in the caged Octagon than a ring with ropes, it would be a much closer fight no matter what because I don't see Rampage dominating Chuck in the Octagon.
Finally, I believe the UFC as a whole is overratted right now, many of their weight classes, namely the LHW & HW division is skeleton thin right now. The LHW division is extremely weak and any doubter should watch Pride FC Critical Countdown 2005 and witness the difference for themselves. While Pride has fighters like Overeem, Arona, Henderson, Nogueira, Shogun, Ninja, & Silva, the UFC has Griffin, Jardine, Evans, Ortiz, Lidell and a promising Bisping in the same weight division. I'm not saying that Chuck Liddell isn't a great fighter because he is, but I am also saying he is the most overratted fighter at the same time. Win a Pride tournament and then he gets his due as the best 205 lb fighter ever, but fighting these marks in the UFC just doesn't cut it.

Dude, Babalu beat Horn and Shogun in one night. He's top 10 and not a B-level fighter.
