Karate defeated Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu when Lyoto fought BJ Penn
Karate's No. 1 representive in MMA==Lyoto. Jiu-Jitsu's No. 1 representive in MMA==BJ Penn. Watch at 3:50 to 3:52. Lyoto does a shotokan sweep on Penn, and completely humiliates him in front of everyone. That karate sweep was so smooth that you'll NEVER EVER hear BJ dis karate these days. If BJ was a Karate skeptic before this, then that Karate sweep probably made him respect it.
His karate moves:
1. Jodan Giaku Tsuki on Sam Hoger
2. Deal Technique on Rich Franklin
3. Shotokan Leg sweep on Vernon White, Nakamura, Rameau Thierry Sokoudjou, and B.J. Penn
4. Ushiro Geri Kick on Sam Greco, Kengo Watanabe, Dimitri Wanderley,
B.J. Penn quote: "He hits like a mule and kicks even harder."
In a bare knuckle street fight, he'd beat a lot of MMA fighters a lot easier---probably even Fedor. Without those cushioned gloves, Lyoto would break any MMA fighter's bones due to the callous hands with shotokan striking. In the old UFC days, the representatives of UFC Karate were white American guys, and white Americans usually aren't that great at Karate. so don't come in this topic and say "OH OH BUT ROYCE KILLED KARATE GUYS!!." No, Royce killed American white guys that weren't very good or very credible in Karate. The only great caucasian Karate fighters, imo, are Gary O'neil(Austrailia) and Frank Brennan(Britain). In case you don't know this yet, America is the laughing stock of the Karate world. America has bastardized it. Japan is the best place for Karate; it's where the credible karate fighters are at, and they would beat Royce if they fought. Koji Ogata, Kokkubun, Tsukamoto, Gary O'Neil, Kenji Midori. These guys>>>Royce in 1995, imo.
Beating Keith Hackney isn't impressive to me.
....And On May 24, at UFC 84, Wrestling will lose to Karate. So, get ready....
SHORYUKEN!!!!!!!!!!

He pulled a move on a guy he outweighed by 30+ pounds... WOW.
The fact that BJ took that fight speaks more aout BJ as a true P4P fighter than it does for Lyoto's technique.
I will gladly give Lyoto his props for being a great fighter. But your thread gets a 0/10. Too bad such a good fighter has to have nuthuggers ruin his name by uttering it.
Flame on.

I like Machida and got no problem with Karate but B.J. P enn was a natural LW and known for being out of shape fighter and still went to decision with Lyoto

Yup. The point of this thread is lame. More importantly it's incorrect. A victory or successful sweep by a guy whos average weight is 30+ lbs greater than his opponents really doesn't say anything about the superiority of his style.
