I was really looking forward to the game too. Unfortunately, I can not support the UFC for strong-arming their fighters into unfair business deals. Instead of negotiating a fair deal, they just throw a fit and cut a bunch of high level fighters. Thumbs down. I will not be buying this game.

Add me to the list (I am definitely buying the game but I will show some online support and pretend I didn't buy it)

He's more recognized because he is a better fighter and has been fighting for much longer at that higher level.

Exactly, UFC isn't screwing fighters, it's screwing the likes of Affliction.
|
Yeah, but the fighters are getting screwed over just the same because their value is dropping should they try to sign elsewhere. Those fighters don't have as many dollar signs floating above their head, in the eyes of rival promotions, whereas UFC has access to all the money they can squeeze out of a fighter. Less value placed on fighters = less money paid to fighters.

And again, I've read whats been shown of the merchandise clause, I still don't see the "no money" thing.
|
It's a contract specifically for video games that Dana, the Fertittas, or whoever, had to rush out after they promised THQ the rights. As far as I understand, at least.

The reason UFC is putting all of these clauses on likeness into contracts is to lessen the value of every fighter, currently under contract with UFC, to other promotions. Keep in mind, though, that the fighter sees none of that extra value. It all goes to the UFC. Thus making it harder for rival promotions to turn a profit should a fighter part ways with UFC and sign with them because they cannot access the other sources of revenue, even if that company would be willing to share some of that revenue with the fighter (unlike UFC).
|
It is scrwweing with the fighters. An example, do you think the NHLPA would allow the likeness of their union members to be added to a video game without the Unions approval, and without certain clauses in the collective aggreement... The same can be said to the NFL, NBA, and any other major sport that has a union. It is not a matter of trying to hurt the oprganization, it is an effort to make a level playgin feild, ensuring the health, safety, and longevity (Physically and financially) of it's fighters. And to hold permanent rights to a fighters likeness is insane. 5 Years, sure, 10, pushing it, anything mroe is just insane.
