The reason UFC is putting all of these clauses on likeness into contracts is to lessen the value of every fighter, currently under contract with UFC, to other promotions. Keep in mind, though, that the fighter sees none of that extra value. It all goes to the UFC because of the exclusivity rights they own over fighters' likenesses. Thus making it harder for rival promotions to turn a profit should a fighter part ways with UFC and sign with them because they cannot access other sources of revenue, even if that company would be willing to share some of that revenue with the fighter (unlike UFC).

No, not entirely. He is a better fighter, but it's because he's more recognised. Promotion can be the key, without even being that great of a fighter (Brock Lesnar pre Herring and Courture fight).
Exactly, UFC isn't screwing fighters, it's screwing the likes of Affliction.
People think Dana White is evil and a dickhead, well, I kind of agree, but when it comes to it he's running a business. He likes MMA and sure, should have a vested interest, but he's there to make $$ and $$ only. He took UFC from pretty much bankrupt to money making machine thats taking off, bringing together great fighters, and making MMA known worldwide. Yet he's the devil and destroying MMA.
The fighter cops a roughish deal, but nothing to leave company over and get fucked over just at a different place.
And again, I've read whats been shown of the merchandise clause, I still don't see the "no money" thing.
Also, fighters shouldn't be dealing with this shit. Get managers to do it.
