I thank God that the primaries went the way they did.
***This is not meant to be a political debate thread. I just want to know if you agree that this election will be about choosing the better person, and not the "lesser of two evils" like in years past.****
No matter who you are supporting for president, take a second to realize the precedents that have taken place during this primary/caucus season.* For the first time ever, a major party nomination will go to a candidate who is not a white male.* In my opinion, any of the three remaining candidates are fit to be commander in chief.* ********
Love them or hate them, Hillary Clinton and John MCain are both centrists and can deliver Bush's broken promise of being a uniter and not divider.* Far left Democrats call Bill Clinton "a good Republican president."* John McCain's senate record shows his talent for bi-partison negotiations and independent positions.* Hillary Clinton used to be called "Stalin in a dress", but she has been able to shake that nickname and create her own successful political career.
During the 2000 Presidential primary, George W. Bush ran a campaign focused on questioning John McCains mental health and challenged his war record.* I was only 17, but I was very involved with supporting McCain. After McCain won New Hampshire, Karl Rove unleashed a coordinated attack against MCain accusing him of being against breast cancer research.* The reason they could legally say that had to due with the fact that McCain voted against a 60+ billion dollar tax break for the oil companies.* Every year Chevron donates $30,000 a year to the American Cancer society.* McCain, didn't think that people would believe this outrageous charge and didn't respond to it.* Unfortunatly, the voters fell for it. I'm starting to go off on a tangent so I'll just say that in 2004 John Kerry was defeated he same way.**********
This primary season has showed us that Americans want a change in policy.* Like I said earlier, I was supporting McCain in 2000 but I would not vote for him now. *He tried to kill our sport because he has ties to boxing, but claimed the moral high ground. Most importantly, he traded the straight talk express for the GOP approved talking points.* Present day I see McCain as nothing more than a consolation prize if the dems lose.*
I am a registered Independent, and I was supporting Joe Biden at the start of the primary season.* If people voted based on the issues and proven experience, Biden would be the best man for the job.* Since he dropped out I have been supporting Hillary and Obama equally. In my opinion, Hillary Clinton is a role model for females all over the world.* I believe she is a policy/procedure-bureaucrat dork/nerd.* You know what, I kind of want a nerd who studies alot in the White House after 8 years of the village idot , "seeing what this button does."* I am man enough to admit that I think Hillary Clinton would be a great president.*************
Last but not least we have Barack Hussein Obama.* First I wanna just put to rest the dumb stories of him being anti-American and/or a muslim extremist who will ruin America because he doesn't always wear a flag pin.* A person's patriotism is measured by their accomplishments in life. If Obama was elected I truly believe that the world's perception of the American people would result in a noticeable positive changes.* The best way to show Middle-Easterners that democracy works is to give them an example. We need to show them why democracy is the best form of government. We need to show them that democracy is superior by proving the people united can make a change.* The fact that a black man with a partially muslim heritage has made it this far in the presidential race has shown the progress this country has made.** Anyone who is worried that Obama will expand affirmitave action couldn't be farther from the truth.* He earned everything he has accompished in life, and so has Hillary Clinton.* Most of the people we are fighting against in Iraq are not affiliated with Al Qaeda, and have been coerced into fighting against the Americans. I believe if Hillary or Obama is elected alot of the people fighting us will stop. I have no wide eyed fantasies about the situation, but I know we can prevail.
I believe that actions speak louder than words and the current administration refuses to acknowledge their disastrous actions. No matter who wins the election, we have a responsibility to stay in Iraq to keep it secure until a long term solution is implemented.* However we do need to change the priorities to succeed.* We need to rebuild the government instead of building Haliburton buildings.*
I was against this war but it is a reality that will haunt the U.S. for years to come.* I don't share the views of most people who are against the war.* I was against the Iraq war because we should of invaded the countries that were resonsible for 9/11.* I think if administration had sent in the same amount of troops to Afghanistan as we did in Iraq we could of destroyed the Taliban and Al Qaeda* My motto was/is, "Let's kill the right people!" Places like Saudi Arabia, Pakistan, and Iran are bigger enemies/ threats than Iraq and/Afghanistan.
In my opinion we have three good candidates this election year and any one of them would make a good president.* Thoughts?
P.S. I know this is more of a waroom thread but fuck tha, the O.T. is my home.

serious answer - i agree with you mostly on the war, buit i could not disagree more on your opinions of the candidates. Hillary would do her best to ruin this country and leave behind everything that our founding fathers worked for and envisioned for this country.
as far as Hussein, he's not black. stop calling him black. he is just as much white as he is black and i'm tired of people trying to make him sound cool by saying he is black. and he does not have a partially Muslim heritage. that makes it sound smaller than it is. his father and his step father were both Muslim.

Dude he is mixed race. And in America, if you have any black in you, you are considered black.

no. don't participate if you can't handle a serious thread once in a while. I am not looking for a political debate. I am stating that I thank god McCain got the GOP nomination cause the rest were horrible except Ron Paul.

exactly. b/c it's "cool". i usually never talk this way, but i don't see him as black or white. he's just a man. trying to make him back or white (or anyone for this matter) i think is continuing racial segregation and i don't agree with it. you may think i'm being a little extreme, but it's how i feel. once we drop all the racial titles and questions (like every form you fill out or test you take) we will move a step closer to ending racism. if it doesn't matter what color you are, then how come every time i fill out a form it asks me what color i am?
