At the bottom right of the post you are responding to, there is a "quote me" button.
I'm not sure what part of my terminology you don't understand, but the basic argument goes something like this: I understand your goal with this thread is to try to cut down on the childish name-calling flame wars that pass for "arguments" on Sherdog. Your ostensible audience, therefore, is made up of those individuals who participate in that kind of posting (which I admit includes me, from time to time.) Do you honestly expect anyone who believes that an appropriate argument is "your a fuckin rediculous moran" to read, much less understand, your original post?

Hey, got ya, haha. After reading it again, i get you. I thought you were talking about context and appropriate ways to argue, as in using rhetoric, therefore bringing into question the fallacious nature of ad hominem arguments.
But now I realize you just meant don't talk like an asshole to dickheads. Point taken.

It goes along with the whole "you catch more flies with honey" thing. You have to present things in a language that people will be receptive to, if you want to influence them in any way. Use the word "epistemology" and you're done. This is the country, after all, in which appearing to be "above average" is rapidly becoming a political liability for some people, and a certain somebody has gotten by for eight years in the Oval Office because "he seems like a normal guy I'd like to have a beer with."

You know, I actually agree that the state of discourse on this board could use an upgrade. It's just too bad you're such a pretentious jerk about it. I reflexively hate you.
Don't take anything said on this board personaly. Just roll with it. It can actually be good for a laugh a lot of the time.

big words are not a problem its just when someone trys to use them to seem smart is funny. smart does not = big words nor does it = reading books and memorizing thoughts/concepts of someone else and then speaking about it and thinking they are smart.
besides that you are right about a lot of posters on sherdog and the net.

come on guys, I've read many intelligent threads without the need to over complicate things. The greatest language is made with the simplest of languages.
Even Winston Churchill lamented the downfall of simple language.
I actually agree with most of what you said TS... I took my share of logic courses, but not everyone comes from that niche.
