Thanks for the tip Cecile, brevity is a plus. Not a troll, just a dick apparently.

We're all very impressed by your use of a thesaurus. You've truly made us forum troglodytes grasp the error of our ways with your brilliant analysis of our posting habits.

Please give MDEmike your lunch money on your way out.

Ever heard of the subjunctive mood, genius? Christ, I hate pretentious assholes like you. You're a fucking idiot...how's that for an ad-hominem? You + pot = massive failure at life. You're the kind of jackass that gives marijuana users a bad name.

I'm all about trying to improve things, so saying "stop all the ad hominems, try to discuss things intelligently!" is good, but in this form it will do less good than usual, and usually it will do minimal good.

You're right, my semantics are off. By stating that an ad hominem is letting personal bias interfere with an argument, I did widen the scope of the term considerably, only further highlighting my own personal bias. Thank you for pointing that out, and I apologize for not being more responsible. At least my example was correct. No drinking and thread starting from now on, again, thanks for the correction, i suck.

That's actually a really good ad hominem. Thanks for getting so worked up.

It takes a lot more than that to get me worked up. Unless you equate "rolling my eyes at the pretention" with "worked up." In that case, yeah, you've managed to get me very worked up.

You seem like a nice enough kid, though.

I understand what you said... but don't make a simple argument so pretentious sounding. That just makes you seem like a poser and an intellectual wannabe.

No problem. In principle, I agree with what you're saying completely, if not the way you are saying it. I'm a firm believer that different situations call for different registers of speech, that's all, and when the situation and the register being used do not match, it makes me very skeptical.
