Going apeshit on people talking about Martial arts.

So I just raged on some guys talking about martial arts, probably wasn't the best way to promote legimate (sp?) martial arts but damn it fills me with rage when some guy is talking about how when he learns kung fu he'll be unstoppable or how a black belt Karate guy would have no problem beating up someone like Tim Sylvia.

So have you raged while trying to talk to people who knows nothing of martial arts but make some ridicilous claims? Also what's the most ridicilous story or claim you've heard about stuff like this?

Just take pride in the fact that you aren't the ignorant one.

There's no reason to confront them with an arrogant attitude. Just state your perspective if asked.

I was once told by a a novice akiado kid that to beat a boxer all you have to do is not let him box you. I laughed and let it go.

Yeah, I'm pretty stubborn and I always want to have the last word in an argument (especially if I know 100% I'm right).

The most ridiculous claims I've ever heard are:

1. MMA doesn't take alot of skill (Usually Boxing nuthuggers rambling about the "Sweet Science" or delusion TMA fans).

2. Mixed Martial Artists are the only fighters equipped to defend themselves in real combat and TMAs aren't effective.

I hear ignorance on both sides of the fence, ignorant MMA fans and ignorant MMA haters alike.

Oh and this one idiot came to one of my Youtube videos saying that an MMA fight I posted must be fake because it ended with a Spinning Back Kick. He said punches and kicks don't work in a real fight, only BJJ does. He defended this claim on and off for months. Everyone was convinced that the guy was insane but later on he said he was just kidding.

It's things like this that have led me to deny that I do martial arts. It's just too embarassing.

I do combat sports.

No need to go apeshit all you need to do is invite these types of people the your gym and let your training do the talking.

I used to feel the same way about TMA's knocked point fighting (Karate) Prior to Lyoto Machida's successful debut and showing that there is in fact a place for it in modern MMA.
