All you guys forgot one of the key factors in America's sports dominance or shortfalling: We are the only nation in the world with our best athletes playing American Football as a pro sport- as in the NFL and Arena League. (Most CFL'ers are Americans anyway).

American football is the nation's #1 sport, and our best athletes are geared towards it and encouraged to play it from birth. Look at some of the athletes the NFL takes: Deion Sanders, Micheal Vick, Ray Lewis, Jerry Rice, Randy Moss, Terrell Owens, Joe Montana, Brady, Marino, the list of world-class athletes that football scoops up is huge.

Now, imagine if these American athletes weren't playing football? They would be the soccer stars, the wrestlers, the MMA fighters, the tennis players, etc.

Many foreigners forget that many of America's top athletes are playing a sport played nowhere else in the world.

After looking at those stats though, i concede they do not dominate every sport. But they certainly are a sports-obsessed country and have dominated a lot of sports for a long amount of time. Australia has zero medals in Winter Olympics but that doesn't mean they can't: they're not a winter country. But it still means they are dominated in those respects.
You do know that Asian do not focus on sports as much as academics which is why they are dominate in it ?

You obviously have no clue of Australian climate Winter Olympics what is that? The point is no country has superior athletes or are superior at sports. There are countries that exceed at certain sports due to popularity, population and economy.

Edit, just reread your post about the winter thing.

So are other countries athletes. The top athletes veer towards the sports most popular in their country. I don't understand what is so hard to understand about this
For instance, a lot of Australian athletes move towards rugby league or Aussie rules which is not played that much in other countries other than the UK. Aussie rules is only played in Aus.But you wouldnt know this as Australia do not have control over most of the entertainment industry like America.

It amazes me how Americans presume their national sports require more athletic ability than sports played by other countries.

America constanty bombards the world with claims of this basketball player or NFL player is the most gifted athlete in the world.

Like I said they dominate the entertainment industry that is for sure.

Have you ever heard of a relatively poor country called Brazil? Despite having a population which isnt up there with the largest they always produce the best players so your statement has only reinforced the stereotype that the americans are some of the thickest people in the world!

Now run along.....
