On the other hand, it is no secret how a regular Dutch training works. You set up a lowkick with some punches, or set up a flurry of punches with a lowkick (that's not all of course, but it's the first principle you learn)
The focus lies on explosive power and perfect technique. And it keeps working.
Why can't other schools get the same result? It's a big mystery for me. It is almost unbelievable that a country with only 16 million inhabitants has such a big share of top fighters.

i have to agree with you there. there are plenty of Dutch fighters in MMA and K-1. stand up is always the main game for the Dutch. they are very good at it. countries like the U.S and Brazil have 200-300 million people. give or take, i dont know numbers here. but they are much higher than that of a country like Holland, who you say has 16 million. i think its just that its a small country with a tradition of combat sports...?
Bjj is very common in Brazil. Brazil is also home of the Gracies, so MMA would seem to be big there.
U.S is the center stage for UFC. there are many great wrestlers and boxers that are native to America.
Japan. well we all know those people love their MMA. a country that also boast a population of 130 million.
those 3 countries to me are the most dominant in terms or amounts of fighters. Dutch being 4th. i cant think of any other countries that would place higher than those 4 in terms of how well MMA does and the amounts of fighters they produce.
*edit* Thailand also ranks high in terms of Kickboxing/fighting. i should know ive been there. lol every little one of those fuckers does Muay Thai. and they are VERy good at it. had the pleasure of being able to see real Muay Thai events when i was there. a lot of fun.

The amount of people who kick box in Holland is way more than in the US. Even at only 16 million people you probably would still find way more kick boxers in Holland. Also the dutch are way bigger than the Thai's and they will naturally have a huge advantage in the upper weight classes.
In comparison to the rest of europe, because its so popular there is a big kick boxing culture which leads to innovative training and a good focus.
If kick boxing was big in the US we'd dominate at it. No one in the world can compete with the athleticism of black people from the US. At 12% of the population they dominate 85% of the sports and have won more gold ****ls per size of their population than any other ethnicity.

well... to be honest, i think its because Caucasian people have gotten pretty god damn lazy.
here me out on this. and this is no way shape or form racist, just a theory i have.
i have many black friends. all of which are in great shape. naturally fast, strong, cut... you name it. athletic all around. i honestly think that in the couple hundred years that the slavery and all that crap went on, white society became lazy. all the while African-American folks were forced to do the hard work our ancestors didnt want to do. so, as evolution goes, they have maintained a natural, raw athleticism, where as white society has gone the complete opposite direction. obesity, out of shape, lazy... call me crazy.. call me what you want, i honestly believe thats why things are the way they are now.
coincidence they are superior in most sports??? i think not.

Simple answer:
Because it is popular there.
Thailand - most popular, best fighters overall
Holland - second most popular, best fighters above 155
USA - best basketball players
It all comes down to the # of people that participate, giving a greater likelihood that ones with the best fighting genes, fighting heart, and fighting mind end up actually fighting

But still, let's say 10 percent of the Dutch do muay thai (which they dont), and 1% of the Americans, there would still be more Americans doing it.
Is MT really THAT small in the US then?

still more western boxing gyms than muay thai gyms. and most of the gyms that teach muay thai used to be tkd or karate gyms that modify themselves and sell it as muay thai
i am not discrediting this guy but heres an example
http://www.extrememuaythai.com/pages/extreme_main.html
apparently hes never trained in muay thai.
and lastly all the black kids are too busy playing basketball......

What about us Latinos? You go under a certain weight class, and Mexicans, Puerto Ricans, etc, are taking home all the medals and belts.
Racial boundaries aside, the Dutch do care, a lot. American kickboxing collapsed into a sea of politics from boxing promoters and the onslaught of MMA where the few legit Muay Thai instructors in the US now teach primarily a crowd that views Muay Thai as a warmup for MMA competition, a means to an end, not an end unto itself. The Dutch meanwhile, have studied MT and KB for years, and adjusted their strageties and evolved their gameplans.
