I remember as a kid i used to train on a bag at home without sparring partners. Once i started training i realised all my crisp combinations where useless in most situations.

Countering is waaaaay more effective in my opinion. That's how guys like Liddell and Crocop (used to) destroy guys in MMA.
I first practised karate where we used to spend miles kicking in the air, repeating the move until it was (barely) perfect.

Then I came to savate and remember my first training session ; at the end we used to do 4-5 cool rounds. The first highkick I gave was a quite elegant move but only sweetly slapped my opponent's nose. Then it was an ugly brawl...

HAHA that sounds so famliar.

Like almost every kid i emulated the moves i saw on movies like karate kid or kickboxer. I mean, we had no internet and my mom didnt want me to see violent shit and all..

I also perfected (in my mind) my left high kick, with that said, being able to get your foot to someones face. I also didnt think of the fact that grazing a face aint gonna do damage.

I found out the hard way when i kicked a guy in school straight in the face and he wasnt even slightly hurt. You have to kick THROUGH peoples faces, i just didnt knew.

Classic shit hehe.

Kepler: I get ya now. Apologies if i came off all asshole like.

Grijswarde: Fair enough with the rules...i was mentioning domination in general because i thought kepler meant dutch dominated all kinds of rulesets at first. But then kepler clarified what he meant.

Nice! Now you just have to train with Rampage and slam him (and get counter-slammed)

One thing you need to put into consideration is the size of the Dutch. The top three producing countries in the kickboxing world are The Netherlands, Thailand, and Japan. There are only two different weight classes in K-1 and their and their arent many Thais and Japanese big enough to fight with the hevey weights.

Its similar to why so many Americans think that Japanese fighters are bad. Not many of them are big enough to fight in the UFC.

Like someone else said, it probably has to do with how like kids in the US grow up with Baseball, kids there grow up with kickboxing. It's just more mainstream and therefore more kids do it which means more opportunity for a awesome pro to be discovered. I would have guessed 15 years ago that some south Asian country would be the MT kings, but here we are.

funny thing is nowadays I tell people I do karate and they go "Oh you do that ultimate fighting stuff?" Rather frustrating
