WCL pushes season 3 to 2010
From another forum:
"I talked to Damien Di Cioli [CEO] on Wednesday. He said it is pushed off to a first of the year start. They just released two new dvds that he sent me. First one is the 30 best knockouts of the WCL and the second is called the best of Bourelly and Daniels. They are trying to get all the dvd's into retail outlets to help generate revenue. Sponsorship is obviously tough because of the economy.
They do have a contract with Versus for season three and have every intention of fulfilling it!"
Sounds like they are having money problems like everyone else. I just hope this isnt the end of televised kickboxing in the US....

That does not sound good. The start has been pushed back a few times IIRC.
Any Combat Sport not named MMA is always a tough sell as far as Sponsorship is concerned.

Yep. MMA is all the rage in the US, while K-1, MT and other striking arts take a back seat. The one thing that the WCL has going for it is the fact that they've already got a contract with Versus so they can get on tv as soon as they can get their act together.

WCL should never be listed with the like of MT or K-1

For all the long pants hating, it's very similar to K-1 in rules. And it's the only kickboxing we get on tv.

Agreed on MMA. Its the new "Extreme" sports [Remember when skateboarding was hot in the 90s?] I hope it lasts longer than the extreme sports fad.
WCL really needs to find their identity. They should either be a Full-Contact Kickboxing league or a Point Fighting league. Before they tried to be a hybrid of both and it gets confusing to the average viewer. I'm glad they still have their Versus deal.

What seperates full contact and point? I mean as far as I could tell the WCL was full contact, but there were points/score awarded at the end of a match. I thought point fighting was like 'no touch' or 'light touch'. WCL had tons of KOs.

Why not? There are MT-trained fighters in WCL. Just like K1 there are no elbows and no clinch.

I still enjoy WCL, though there are a few things i would change. Like the pants, and the aggressiveness rule, and the rounds, and the shinpads.
Hell, if WCL started doing shit right for the next 5-10 years instead of K-1 level striking, Joe Rogan would be rambling about WCL level striking when he talked about fighters.

No elbows but you can clinch, throw a strike then release, just like K-1. Again it's the same rules as K-1 except the the no passivity thing.
