Why the Dutch dominate...

Just want to share some thoughts, like to hear your opinion on this.

Let me introduce myself first. Right now i'm training JJ, but I just to be a MT-fighter for Maeng-Ho (Dekker's gym). During that time i saw numerous fights, and also the training program's for Dutch MT Fighters.

This first thing, is that most Dutch kids play soccer from an early age. Probably like Americans do baseball or basketball. They train their legs extensively and develop a good kicking technique, able to transfer a lot of power in their kicks.

Then, when they get old enough to begin MT, the first thing they learn is the lowkick.
Then, they get trained on: Jab, jab, straight, lowkick
And they repeat that set a thousand times, making it a devastating move.

That said, with a background like that most Dutch MMA-fighters need a LOOOONG time to adapt to the MMA-game.

Any thoughts on that?

And what is the main focus with American MT-schools?

ps: sorry if my English is bad...

This was discussed in a thread some times ago.

But it's true that dutch dominance over kickboxing is still growing up...Schilt, hari, spong, souwer : there is no contender to this global reign today, even if japan and thailand do well in some weight classes.

I'm pretty sure Andy Souwer doesn't have a liver either. After seeing the number of solid flesh-rippling right side body shots he's taken without flinching, it's the only possible answer.

Yeah and it still amazes me. I don't believe us Dutchmen are genetically better, hence that people like Badr Hari, Hoost en Bonjaski have either a Maroccan or Surinam background. It must be the training.

On the other hand, it is no secret how a regular Dutch training works. You set up a lowkick with some punches, or set up a flurry of punches with a lowkick (that's not all of course, but it's the first principle you learn)

The focus lies on explosive power and perfect technique. And it keeps working.

Why can't other schools get the same result? It's a big mystery for me. It is almost unbelievable that a country with only 16 million inhabitants has such a big share of top fighters.

Americans seem to dislike kicking for some reason.

True, i meant it more in the sense that moest Americans have a background in either wrestling or boxing...

And clinching is by the way also very intensively trained in Holland, mainly to bring knees in. Think of Yvel and Overeem doing it in MMA a lot.
