muay thai rules and scoring

could somebody either point me in the direction of a good read or explain to me-

how a bout is scored (full thai rules)

would i be right in thinking rounds 1-2 judges make a mental note of whos 'winning' or scoring higher then rounds 3,4 and 5 being the main influences..

8 counts tko's knockouts scoring higher or winning the fight..

i

'm more interested in which techniques are highest scoring, my trainer always tells me to knee in the clinch 'don't wrestle' but from reading today it seems trips and throwing your opponent to the floor are high scoring, unless my sources are wrong..

thanks

Knees are scored highest, then kicks, then elbows, then punches, then sweeps.
If I remember correctly.

Cool article. Thanks for the link.

I would only emphasize that different amateur orgs judge differently and some may differ significantly from what the article states.

In my last fight, they didn't take into consideration the quality of the techniques, they just used a clicker to count the landed blows, giving you one click for a punch and two clicks for a kick. The most number of clicks wins the round and if there was a big enough difference the round was a 10-8.

If you're looking to fight, your local association might have their scoring criteria posted online.

You can trip/throw but you must use the front of your foot and not the heel.

You also have to remember that this article refers to how fights are scored in Thailand or if Thai judges are scoring the bout. If you are fighting here in America and the judges aren't Thai, the scoring system will change dramatically.
