Why is Penn not in the K1 tourney?

Hey...did a search, but couldn't find anything.

Penn was initially listed on the card for the LHW tourney...but obviously isn't participating. Why is that? The only thing I could find was an article stating that negotiations were underway, but that he hadn't been confirmed.

?

ok...but that in and of itself wouldn't prevent his participation.

Royce has a K-1 contract (AFAIK) and Silva is still under contract to Pride FC...both have been able to fight (or will fight) in UFC after negotiations between the organizations.

An article on Sherdog said that negotiations were underway for Penn to participate, but that's the last I heard of it.

I'm just curious to know if a concrete reason was ever given as to why he is not participating...

We would all have to know what the contract looked like in order to see what the issues might be. He's a blue chip UFC fighter and I'm sure that Zuffa is in no hurry to have him taken down a notch in K1 or even worse - injured. All contracts are different but I'm sure that some kind of deal will have to be made between UFC and K1 (unless Zuffa owes them one for Royce). I didn't mean that the contract was the ONLY factor but merely that it was the most logical starting point for why Penn isn't on the K1 card.

Ye not only did BJ screw up his hand but he just announced that he is going to fight in the LW divisdion (155lb) so he is probably busy cutting down and getting use to that wight class again.

I don't think Penn will be fighting in K-1, as long as he has a UFC contract.
