Master Toddy
What's the deal with this guy? I hear conflicting stories about his training an credentials. Some people I've heard trained with him and say he's great, but then I read a whole bunch of stuff about him being really being a TKD instructor who's a profiteer with no pro fights. Is this true?
If so, why would such great fighters like Maurice Smith and Melchor Menor train with him? I won't mention Kit Cope because I know about his BS, but Menor is an amazing kickboxer.
I saw the Fight Girls show and everyone was showing great respect to Toddy as a trainer, but then they were doing some weird-ass drills like punching apples and working out in the water with bikinis. I know it's just a show, but all the "heart of a lion spirit" stuff he was saying seemed borderline McDojo-ish. What's up with that?
I would really like to know, because he seems like such a popular trainer here in America, but I get an eery vibe from him and people I know have been to Thailand have said some negative things to say about him.
Anyone know the real story?

I think he is a good trainer and so doe my instructor. However, some of the stuff he may do seems "McDojoish" but regardless, he knows what he is doing. I do question some of his methods but you can't deny that he has developed some decent fighters. Maybe not at the world class level but still. I have heard however, he is not very good at training new people and beginners but is great at working with fighters who already have a developed skillset and help them improve

But isn't that the mark of a truly great trainer, one who can build a fighter from the ground up? It's the same criticism that Freddie Roach because he specializes in taking already good fighters and making them better which in the opinion of many is not nearly as hard.
At least I know Toddy's not a complete fake, I was having my doubts with some of his one-liners "you do so good. Heart of Lion!!". He's looks like a cheesball, but if he's a good MT coach, who's to complain?

I don't know much about Master Toddy...but am a little unclear on his real ring experience. But I understand that he has other trainers in the gym who are former stadium champs/fought in Lumpini/Radja. That would be the real draw for me

He's a fraud. As shown in your identical thread to this in Stand-up Technique.

When I was in Vegas for K-1, I trained with Master Luukchang. He worked a miracle on my thai kicks. Mind you, some of the time I had no idea what he was saying, but he found ways to get his ideas across.
But that is the extent of my involvement with Toddy's people. Sure has a nice training facility, even though hearing Toddy yell on their Thai music cd gets kind of old.

I know of Master Toddy only through my Master who is Master Sken. There is one thing I will say is tracking back a Master's fight record is almost impossible. The reason why is that they went under different names when they fought. Also when they fought they weren't fighting for the rush. They would be fighting for survival and a living, therefore all the glamorizing of fighting now wasn't evident back then, so to find video footage and photos of them fighting is very rare. I have only ever saw one video tape of Master Sken fighting.
Regarding Master Toddy's TKD background, this is actually true. I think he's a 4th degree black belt in TKD. However the Masters would also train in other Martial Arts to add to their arsenal of MT. Please remember there is a lot of cross over between the Eastern martial arts due to religion. It's not unusual to see techniques from one eastern martial art in the arsenal of another.

Good grief you are naive. They went to university to study physical education, where they learned TKD, and muay thai. They were middle class, and would have no reason to train or fight muay thai since they had money and were educated. Toddy was in Manchester earning his degree and teaching TKD when he realized nobody know of muay thai --- and he could and did capitalize on that and began to teach a hybrid muay thai + TKD to a crop of students. Look at the styles of Sandy Holt, Phil Nurse and Ronnie Green (many TKD style kicks in the arsenal).
Toddy, Sken and A are all frauds in this regard, yet since they introduced the sport, used real fighters to help teach, many overlook this and are thankful.
