American vs International Kickboxing
Hey guys, there's a gym down the road here that is offereing "American Kickboxing" and "International Kickboxing" classes. I know that American Kickboxing doesn't allow shots below the belt. But other than that, what are the differences?

As I said in my first post, I was aware of the no strieks below the belt. Is that really the only difference? I'm just wondering if there are any changes in technique or just rules. Thanks!

Well, I haven't been to the gym you're talking about, so I don't know what they do in their class. I'm just going on from what I've seen watching kickboxing over the years. If you had a link I could maybe see. Otherwise, just go over and ask/observe a class.

American Kickboxing is also known as Full Contact Kickboxing (or FCR).
International Kickboxing, also known as International Rules Kickboxing or Low Kick Rules is basically FCR plus leg kicks.
Both are valid. Also you'll see people talk shit about FCR due to not allowing leg kicks or knees, but who gives a hell. Muay Thai doesn't allow groundfighting, so is Muay Thai shitty? No.
Go for which ever one you want to do.

Ya bro, just have fun! That's what it's all about really.
I know some people who do American Kickboxing because they have knee problems or can't stand getting kicked in the leg.
Do both if you want, and don't forget to train hard and compete if you want.

No.
Muay Thai, K-1 Style, and Sanda contains knee strikes. I've also heard Kickboxing with knee strikes referred to as Oriental Style.
