Sudoraba spot on there, couldnt have put it better. One thing I keep seeing though time and time on the net is about him getting fighter of the year award in Thailand, ive asked before and never got an answer as to what award. There are two big fighter of the year awards in Thailand the sportswriters award and the sports authority and he has never won either award, so wondering what award it actual was?

There is no one that has captured the imagination of the Thai's anywhere near to the same level as Dekkers though, his spirit and k.o's of some decent names back when a white western fighter would not have been given much of a chance really got him noticed and although he may well not have been the best foreign fighter to compete in Thailand, he is still talked about all the time, I have lost count of the time ive spoken with a taxi driver or someone about Muaythai and he will always be mentioned, where I have yet to meet one that mentioned any other foriegn boxer.

He was an insppiration to me when I first got involved and was lucky enogh to see him fight live in Lumpini, though not one of his best fights, but the bullshit about him getting ripped off by the judges goes too far

Well if you're talking about the best of the world in Muay Thai...its the ranked fighters at Lumpinee and Rajadamnern stadiums. So yeah they do fight the best in the world...its just that we don't get to hear much about it unless you live in Thailand.

Examples include: Saenchai, Diesellek, Singdam Kiatmu9, Jomthong Chuwatanna (these guys are current top fighters in Thailand)....i'm pretty sure Anorak can give you a lot MORE comprehensive list of fighters.

Most Thai arn't concerned with world titles, the Lumpinee Title is the ultimate Prize.
Abidej Sit herun in my opinion was the best,he was also named fighter of the century.
Real nice guy to with a wealth of knowledge,It was an honour to train with him.

I got that same impression after Slamm Holland vs Thailand 2, where I got the honor to eat with the Thai fighters and their crew after the event. There was a Dutch guy with Thai roots with us so we could talk a bit and he would translate. This was the event were Spong knocked out Kaoklai by the way. At one point the conversation was Dekkers, and once again, they talked with great respect about him, being the best Dutch fighter ever, hands down. His combinations, boxing, his heart, his style, they were just so full of respect. I asked about how they thought about Rob Kaman for instance, but they just shook their heads and were like " Just Dekkers, he was a phenomenon" . In his own right ofcourse.
