Thx for the link.

This is a sad case. Society/legal system should respond quite harshly to these kind of attacks.

I sometimes wonder how many people in prison are there because of acts of violence that the victim did not expect or was almost helpless against. (Weapon, from behind etc.) I bet most of the violence is just like that, it doesn't help the victim/-s to be a black belt or anything in any art of self-defence. Violence is most of the times cowardly and "insane".

What can we do then? Well, society should really respond to these attacks. We can pray God, grow up our kids well and try to elect the right people to the governing bodies. Other than that, avoid going out? I guess that's not an option. We can't make every man and woman prudent, but we should try anyhow. Not every portion of history has been as violent and unpredictable as today.

Well i just find it cowardly and scum like outnumbering someone and attacking them from behind with a weapon.
There should get each thug/wimp and but them in the ring with a Khmer Kickboxer.

Guy doesn't even know why he was attacked. Just imagine getting destroyed by some dudes you barely recognize for no given reason. Hope the enjoy our federal facility's.

Self-defense works in many cases but no one is really safe from random violence. It doesn't even matter if you have a gun. The criminal is the instigator - he always has the initiative. That mafia hitman Kuklinski (aka the Iceman) was no athlete; he was overweight and probably couldn't run 100m without gassing, he wasn't a skilled fighter or even particularly clever ..but he always got the job done simply because the victim just did not see him coming.
What are you going to do if a guy pulls up in his car asking you for directions and then brings up a crossbow to your face? (Kuklinski actually did this to a random guy just to see 'if that thing (the cross-bow) would work'). Forget the fantasy of the armed citizen - society's only defense is to catch these guys fast and put them away.
