Not only that but the ref steps back in an angle, with his back turned towards Corbett.

I doubt Spong broke his hand in the first round. He knocked Nathan down in the second with a big right hand and shortly before used his left to throw a big body shot, he was using both hands as normal.

depends, I broke what is called a carpal bone in my hand, the one which connects your thumb to your wrist. I could still finish it because the tape and gloves spread out the impact and your knockles are the main point of impact. Still it hurt a lot afterwards and had to heal for 4 weeks.

I just watched the fight and thought another parochial Aussie should chime in.
No doubt Carnage screwed up... if you look at his eyes it was target fixation.
He was so keen to jump on Spong and finish it, he was barely paying attention to the Ref.
...but given that the ref was so indecisive and backed out the way as he signalled, the fact that the fight was over, the fact that there was no malice involved, there is no way that it should have been a no contest.
Carnage was robbed.

Great fight though...

I watched the fight just now as well, and being a dutchman myself and a zealous adherent to our delusional belief that everything dutch is inherently great and superior, I still have to admit that I would feel more comfortable with a win for Carnage.

The referee didn't make it clear to both fighters that the fight had been stopped. One of the fighters continued to attack, but did no real damage to the other fighter. The referee gave the win to carnage by waving it off, the fact that he did not fully make this clear to carnage is 100% the referee's fault. It is not like carnage would not have won had the referee not made this mistake, because the fight was already over by the time carnage attacked spong after the 10 count. So there, judged by criteria of fairness the fight should go to carnage. The fight itself showed that either man can knock the other out, and this win does not mean one fighter is clearly better than the other. Congratulations Carnage, even though on paper this is declared a N.C.
