elbows, my friend. a lot of MT elbow techniques are illegal in MMA. (ie, downward point-of-elbow strike to the crown)

also, in MMA, you have an escape if you're getting your ass beat on the feet. you can try to get in on the mat. in muay thai, boxing, k1, etc. you have no choice but to stand.
