If you knew you lost the fight because of a bullshit call on an legal elbow you probably wouldn't care either.
To play devil's advocate: in a sport where the goal is to physically harm your opponent to the point where they either can not or will not continue, including turning off the brain, cutting off blood circulation, and breaking joints, people get up in arms over a fucking head drop.
Nobody was calling for Faber's head when he did the Emerald Frosion to Chance Farrar or when Varner did the DVD to Sherron Leggit.
Don't even get me started on the Randleplex either.

fuck tonight! im at my homies house, sitting at the computer and some drunk bitch sits on my lap. no less that 5 seconds later im getting punched in the fuckin face by like 4-5 guys (i didnt go down so now i know i dont have a glass chin) over fucking nothing. cops showed up few people were arrested for assault (which was the right thing to happen)
but the shit was wack, over fucking nothing. although now i have a fat black eye. i look like fuckin big show after ONS

The Japanese (certainly Pride did, and Minowaman did a full-on piledriver in a match once (probably Pancrase or DEEP) allow spiking (see Sapp/Nog too), so the Randleplex was perfectly legal there. Highly dangerous though.
Did Marquardt intend to piledrive Leites? I thought he was going for a powerbomb, but either Leites partially blocked it, or Marquardt just couldn't lift him.

I imagine there's a good chance he wasn't really intending to do either as such, just something. It was the end of the fight and he had had two points taken from him, I think he was just going for broke at that point. He knew what he was doing, but I don't think it was a premeditated move, like he though "This is a perfect opportunity to piledrive/powerbomb" him, more like "Fuck, I need to finish this fight now" and Leites just happened to be in the right position.
Whatever it was intended to be, if it was indeed intended to be something, it was fucking awesome.
