Judo Or Wrestling

Which is the better base for MMA? We've seen alot of successful Judoka and Wrestlers in MMA. Yoshida, Parisyan, Sik (yes I consider him good because he's lost only to top competition) And then the likes of Couture, Severn, and Hughes. (before becoming a full MMAist)

The question is which is the better base for MMA?

Judo -

Takedowns/throws
Submissions
Chokes
Balance

Wrestling -

Takedowns
Positioning
Strength
Quickness

it seems to me the wrestlers have had an easier transition when it comes to mma. i think it's easier for wrestlers to learn the submissions and JJ because they already have such great ground control. just my opinion

I like how the threadstarter lists submissions and chokes seperately. And that Sik is good because he lost to good people, that's always hilarious logic.

Judo is good for the submissions, but when you look at all the champs in Pride or the UFC its clear that more title holders have extensive Wrestling backrounds as opposed to Judo. (ex. Hughes, Liddel, Henderson, Gomi)

Wrestling is a better base for MMA. I love judo throws though.

Wrestling is the only sport that prepares fighters to fight at a young age. Judo makes it a tough transition with out the gee half Judo throws are out. Ground control is more a wrestling thang *****.
