This statement alone shows that you are either trolling or a retarrd. Even people much more successful than yourself, like Warren Buffet, would disagree with you.

So not everyone can go to college?

Hired Gun--could you please lay out your argument more formally, because from what I understand of Luba's position, your contentions don't seem to hold.
From what I understand of Luba's position:
Success is based on the subjective goals of each individual. Luba would not consider a crack addict that got a job at Walmart unsuccessful. The crack addict has move up in his station in life. Luba would be unsuccessful if his current job failed and he had to get one at Walmart. He has moved down in his station. It is entirely subjective. I don't see where the "failure of others" argument comes in.

the subjectivity of success does not change that it requires failure, namely that of others, to give itself meaning. If no one other than him failed, then his idea of success would be meaningless.

Well, whatever you want to say. I guess all success is meaningless without failure. What are you getting at? I'm a bad guy because I enjoy the fruits of my labor? You profess to lead more pure, thoughtful life? Actually, you are no different than any other philosopher or publication-hungry academic. You are not above me. Telling yourself I'm bad because I enjoy what I've earned doesn't make it true. It just is a way to make you feel better about yourself and situation.

I don't follow. Could you expand on this idea?

Yes, but you can have success without the failures of others.
