This thread got pretty sad, pretty fast. I was hoping for some talented flaming, but all I got was a bunch of weiners claiming to be too cool to fight.

I don't see this as the case. I think by Luba's standards he could be successful in a vacuum (or at least without social comparison). If he was the last man on Earth, and his goals consisted of building a house and hunting a wild boar, he would still consider himself successful in the accomplishments of these goals.
Maybe I'm missing your aim. If so, please be more explicit.

You also, for some irrational reason, believe that everyone was born into the same situation as you (parents with money), and then chose to piss it all away...

How can you say that you "put in the effort," but those with less than you do not?

You are a product of your choices. Everyone has the same opportunities as I've had. We live in a country where pretty much anyone can do pretty much anything. Btw, my parents gave me no money. They didn't pay for my college. I paid my own bills and my own tuition.

I said earlier, success is a personal perception. He can be successful in his own eyes. I have different objectives.

How very existentialist of you; I think it is too dissmisive of sociological and deterministic variables, no?

This is a very contended statement and leap frogs over not just arguing it to be true but, too, whether people have equal reach to such opportunities whether they be social, psychological, genetic, economic, etc.

As I've said elsewhere on here, I only want to enjoy life. I want to have freedom to work when I want, eat the food I want, take a few weeks off for travel when I want, live anywhere in the world I want, and not be stressed about having enough money or retirement. Achieving these endeavors is success. I win. Conspicuous wealth is just something that goes along with this. Yeah, I feel better than others. yeah, I'm happy I've done a better job that most people. That makes me feel good. But I agree that I would still consider myself successful even without these things. If I lived all alone in this world and achieved these goals, I would still feel equally successful. I just want to live without worries and enjoy myself.
Enough about this and my success. I'm not rich. I'm not Paris Hiton or Bill Gates. I'm not doing anything of world shattering proportions. Let's just get back to hating on EEG.

I have different goals. A homeless man's goal might be to get a stable job and rent an apartment. My goal might be to start a successful online business and buy an island. If my goal was to do something more, and I ended up failing and working at Wal-Mart, then I would have not succeeded.

I believe internal attributions to success >>>>>>> external attributions.

You grade his as life unsuccessful because he fails to meet your own subjective standards of success?
