Cintron says he'll fight Sherk....

There is a thread in the HW forum right now, about it. My computer is jacked right now so I can't post a link. (don't ask) but the source is from Fightnews.com I believe.

I'm just curious what some of you guys think about the possibility. Not just the outcome, but the whole situation. Just think about it, Kermit Cintron, the IBF WW champion of the world, is putting out statements that he'll fight in a MMA bout. BTW, in the article it states that he was a "wrestling star" in HS and was offered a full scholership to Wisconson and Ohio State. (the Ohio state scholarship is rather impressive actually)

From what I understand he's not the biggest WW, so I'd rather see him fight Faber, but he wouldn't get the money he'd want. I'm assuming he'd want the 2 million offered Floyd, which isn't a bad idea for Dana considering the Puerto Rican heritage, and we all know that Dana would love some new fans.

Just though I'd throw it out there for you guys.

Here is the link to the HW thread.

IBF World Welterweight Champion Kermit Cintron: "I Accept Dana White's Challenge"

I give Cintron a decent chance, considering he catches Sherk.....which is well within the realm of possibility, his wrestling background could provide for a pretty good TD defense. MMA at this level isn't something to be learned overnight, but he'll have a quality chance if he can put together a TD defense plan. If it ever got to the ground of course you need to give this fight to Sherk.

Assuming it would actually ever be scheduled.....

I love MMA but when MMA fans start talking about boxing I pretend I'm not one of them.

I'd love to see that fight. Cintron absolutely dwarfs Sherk in terms of height, and he has a strong wrestling background as well, though not on Sherk's level. I'd pay to see it.

Big problem, welterwieght in boxing is 147 pounds, is UFC welterweight not around 170?
Therefore he wouldnt be fighting Sherk, this also mean the proposition to Mayweather to fight sherk was ridiculous since he moved up in weight to his heaviest last saturday at 150.

Sherk is 155.

I doubt Cintron weighs exactly 147 all the time.

Cintron wants to fight Sherk at 155 lbs. Cintron's normal weight is in the 160's supposedly. My problem with the fight is that Mayweather talked trash by saying a boxer could beat an MMA fighter and then backed down. Cintron actually has a background in wrestling, so the fight would not prove a boxer could beat an MMA fighter. There is really no need for the UFC to accept the challenge.

You walk a thin line......we discuss boxing here on an MMA site man, but I hear what you're saying.

It’s true:
http://www.boxingscene.com/?m=show&id=8562

World News : Cintron: "I Accept Dana White's Challenge"

Well, it would be a huge fight for MMA, and sell a lot more tickets than most of their recent shows.
The first decent Boxer to ever bother with those challenges, it's actually a credit to MMA that one would.

The risk to MMA is allot higher, Mr. White should know.

If Sean Sherk wins, people will say “well, sure….Boxing is a sport of highly refined skills necessary to an overall fighter, but limited in scope, but it still makes for a great sport, and a clean fight”.

But……if Kermit Cintron wins, that’s it for MMA, and people will say “second rate athletes in a second rate sport. Even a guy with no experience can beat their best……ban it, it’s human cockfighting between bums”.

As much as I enjoy MMA, I’m not sure which outcome I’d rather see.

Mixed Martial Arts, with Dana White as the bandleader has been riding Boxing’s coat tails for a long time now, using every opportunity to state that their promotion is a better product, but this past week’s Oscar-Floyd affair gave them the public’s reaction, and I hope Dana thinks as highly of his product as he says he does.

If he hasn’t made the call to Kermit Cintron yet, we’ll all know the answer to that question.
