The year of the Gracies?

My worst fear for this year has come true. We saw early on that all of the Gracies were coming out to fight this year and they've all, for the most part, been demolished. I like most people on here appreciate what the Gracie's did for the sport over the years. But this year has been especially humiliating. The only thing that could cap it off would be if Rickson fought Bas or somebody and got his ass kicked too. In the 90's BJJ schools became popular across the US due to the early BJJ dominance over MMA fighting. Will these schools now collapse to the now popular cross training schools? Can we now close the door for good on any one pure martial arts form dominating? Should the Gracie's be relegated to third tier fighting tournaments until they prove themselves like anybody else? It used to be sacrilege to nitpick Royce and others about their ground fighting. They were Gods on the ground. Now, not even that's safe it seems. Sorry for another Gracie thread, but for history's sake they are still interesting to follow and talk about.

Ah... the year of the gracies. I think there were 3 of them... From 1993 - 1995 wasn't it?

the Gracies will always be good in grappling competition but they wont return to prominence in MMA until they stop being so goddamn thickheaded and learn some fucking striking. It doesnt take a genius to know that even if you are the best grappler in the world you cant win with just grappling.

Considering both Crosley and Rodrigo both lost last night.. I understand where your coming from.

Now Renzo is fighting Militech..if he loses that, then you are correct.

Unless they pick up some decent standup and wrestling, they have a long way to go.

Since thier techniques are open to the public, you'll never see the Gracies dominate again as they used to. BJJ is standard training in MMA that every Tom, Dick and Harry practices. It is no longer some unknown art, that opponents had no idea how to deal with, but common knowledge nowadays.

Since the Gracies are no longer able to corner the market with thier techniques, it's only going to be a matter of time before they're completely phased out. So enjoy them while you can.

Well I wouldn't lay the Gracie family out to die. There is alot young Gracie's that will be coming into the MMA field in the next year to three years (some already started working there way up) and I think some of them will make it up to the top of the mountain or at least come very close. Many of the younger Gracie's aren't as thick headed as there fathers and there fathers before them so they will be much more rounded fighters.
