Will the UFC ever use invis-camo technology for cameramen and posts?
It could be revolutionary to help visibility on in arena viewers.
I remember seeing this technology a while ago, and it seems pretty damn cool. I haven't seen this idea mentioned before, and now that I think about it. It would be pretty innovative and useful for fans in the arena.
Probably not for a long time. According to the article, so far it only works on 2D fields. If you were to see the same image from a slightly different angle the effect would not work.
The technology only works when you are filming the scene behind the person who is standing in front of it. Because the camera angles at UFC events are not stationary, this would be practically impossible to sync up whereas if you wanted to do this effect in a newsroom it could be much more attainable (since the camera usually remains static).
Still a great piece of technology nonetheless.

I don't get your plan for using this at UFC shows..?
He's saying the cameramen and corner posts get in the way for those in attendance.
In the article you linked, though, you'd have to be looking at exactly the right angle for the optical camouflage to work. It wouldn't work in a live for the audience.
The only way it would work is with fixed camera positions that don't move (ergo, don't follow the action) and stay focused on the material.
I'll be the first nerd and say the music is from Chrono Trigger. LOL!...sorry
It is kind of butchered though, because it is so slow, and kind of elevator music sounding like.

So no, this won't work for the UFC.
I think it might work if it was setup with 3 angles.
-------o------- the o is the post
. . . . . C . . . . .the C is the cameraman
. .. c . c . c . . . the small c are cameras for the invis cloak.
The 3 angles hitting different sides of the body of the cameraman/post might work. I'm guessing with enough sophistication a rudimentary 3-D system will be developed.
That stuff only works because the image behind the person is projected onto them. You'd still need a camera to film the live images behind them, thus defeating the whole purpose of what you set out to accomplish. A is A.
As far as materials that "bend light" as per required to see through someone, they do not exist. And even if you could bend light through a solid object so it no longer looked solid, the light could never be bent to perfectly match the perception of human beings.
