Why Isnt Franca a Huge Favorite
I dont know why everyone loves Sean Sherk so much. He seems like a really nice guy but who has he beaten?
Crosley Gracie has beaten more top LW fighters than Sean Sherk
Meanwhile Franca has been tearing up the division for the past year or so

Sherk's strength, wrestling ability, and cardio give him the edge. I want Hermes to win, but I'm afraid sherk's strength will be too much for him, and he will be held down for 5 rounds for a sherk lnp victory...

Did you see what Jamie Varner did to Hermes for most of their fight? Sherk's is very similar to him, except about 100x better...he should win this fight comfortably.

Lay n Pray? are you basing that off the Florian fight where he was basically fighting with ONE arm?

I'm guessing it's because Sean Sherk is 31-2 with most of those fights being at 170. His only two losses being to Hughes (5 round decision) and GSP (TKO). That's pretty impressive no matter how you look at it.
I don't think people are counting Franca out, but it's kind of hard to put him as a favorite over Sherk; at least in my opinion.

Sherk is better than Varner based on what? Beating Manny Gamburyan six years ago? Sherk has made a career off losing to Matt Hughes in a five rounder. Sherk is a boring lay and pray fighter who couldnt even hurt Kenny Florian

Sherk is going to take Franca down with impunity and g&p his way to victory. Sherk is a high percentage fighter. Franca had problems with Varner who has no where near the motor of sherk. Sherk doesnt gas. This is going to be a Sherk victory. His wrestling, sub defense and cardio will prove to be too much.

Dont look at their LW records, look at the matchup. Bad matchup for Franca. You'll see.

Well, for one, Sherk's stand up is MUCH better than Varner's, so already Hermes is in trouble there...and people really REEEALLY need to open their eyes and see that Kenny's a legit LW contender and get rid of this "TUF fighters suck" mentality...

Sherk gets standup credit off one fight. Nick Diaz was so worried about the takedown that he couldnt pick apart Seans solid, but incredibly basic, technique. Just because Joe Rogan says it doesnt make it true (oh and almost by definition TUF fighters do suck)
You are the one who needs to open your eyes. Kenny has one legit LW win and that was over maybe the no. 42 LW in the world. If he is a contender, and he's not, its only because the UFC's LW division is so hideously bad.

Not a big fan of Sherk, mainly because of his fans for the following reasons
1) His 31-2 record includes NO big wins other than an 18 year old Karo (both fights were pretty close) and a war against Nick Diaz. His other wins are against relative write-offs except Kenny Florian who by all accounts is a solid if unspectacular fighter. Yet every fan of his jumps at the chance to introduce this amazing record of his. However, Sherk is essentially 3-2 against good competition while 28-0 against no namers
2) He doesn't pass guard. Why? Sometimes I find myself yelling at my television for Sherk to pass guard. His small arms and small torso are not tailor made to inflict serious damage within someones guard. Imagine this guy in mount or some dominant position?
3) His freaking sub defense. Yes it's good simply because he is powerful and stocky but its being called world class by a lot of people. But wait a minute, whose guard has he dwelled in to make it world class? Nick Diaz was able to make a fight out of it in his guard and Florian was in the ballpark on an armbar attempt.
Fedor's sub defense is world class because he went the distance inside one of the most prolific guards in the business. Nog's sub defense is good because he's fought the best sub guys in the heavyweight division and he's never been finished. BJ Penn has some of the best sub defense in the business because of his dexterity and immense grappling talents. Tell me, a short stocky guy who hasn't been in a world class guard has world class sub defense HOW?
Yeah rant over... I got Sherk by UD or hopefully Franca by sub. I hope it's the latter, Sherks good takedowns and plodding ground and pound just don't get me hyped for a fight. Could be just me though
