why does the game plan go out the window
Over and over we see people chuck (pardon the pun) the game plan and try and trade with Chuck. Why is this? Is it possible .....once in the ring he doesn`t seem that physically intimidating?
The guy is known for his striking and sprawl,.,... but yet time after time,....people try and trade and aren`t overlly respectfull of his striking ability....happened to horn, coutoure x2, tito (well that was expected) and babalu.....
Thoughts?

I think in Babalu's case, it was over-exitement and or nerves his first main-event in the UFC and a title shot. His gameplan migh thave been come after Chuck to get him off balance and then take him down. Obviously it didn't work.
With Couture, he's already beaten Chuck on the feet, so he might have been overconfident. The second fight, he got hurt with a hook, and he paniced.
With Tito, his confidence was shot
With Horn, no idea what happened there.

That was part of his gameplan. Like Randy said, you have to engage with him to get a takedown. He tried to fake him out and preoccupy him with some punches and then go for a takedown and Chuck saw it coming and threw an uppercut. Chuck is not going to lose to a grappler, his next loss is coming by a striker.

It probably is part of their gameplan to take Chuck down to the ground. But if they rush in for the takedown from the start and keep trying to take Chuck down as fast as possible, it becomes very predictable for Chuck. Plus, with takedown defence as good as Chuck's it's going to be hard for them to go for a typical takedown and at the same time would leave them open for a KO blow from Chuck. They would have to clinch with him and go from there, but obviously that's not an easy thing to do with a fighter who keeps moving backwards, yet throwing deadly punching at the same time. So it's a little ironic that in one way, they have to strike with him for a while and surprise him with a takedown, risking to get KO'd. And in the other way, trying to take him down immediately wouldn't work since Chuck would see it coming and sprawl, leaving them open for attacks as well.
Look at the way Fedor handled Crocop. He striked with him for a long time, moving forward and trying to get the clinch. Once he was at that position he tried to take him down.

What do you think of the game plan of standing in the center of the ring, being patient and make Chuck come to you. If he doesnt, wouldn't that be stalling on his part since you are in the center of the ring.

Interesting point....not sure I'd want to just hover there.....
Someone needs to start chopping at his legs....who was that fighter that didn't want to trade wtih tank and kept throwing leg kicks until he went down...?
