Agreed. Most of the watching with excitement comes after the 'OOOOOO's' at comps. What did I miss? Damn. Occaisionally we catch a HL.

Tru dat. And another huge one is the head and arm vs Koshiguruma. Many think it is the same. And the japanese whizzer and ippon seoi are way diff as well.

Many think the same but it is many times the stance/positioning, the grip of gi, and the scores invloved which is what make them so different. Of course, the dynamics.

Judo is an affestive art. Judo was the first martial art I traind in. I think its more effective than wrestling. While in high school I nocked the wind out of a wrestler with a judo through.

i think karate gets an honorable mention because it can teach you how to focus your energy/harness chi into a very powerful punch. chuck is from kempo - i don't think it is a coincidence that he ktfo's almost everyone he fights. bas has always given credit to his kyokushin background. lyoto machida (who is this guy?) is karate/bjj. many kickboxers have karate backgrounds. st. pierre's spinning back kick on hughes is courtesy of his karate background.

all-in-all i think karate has a place in mma. it may not be the first consideration for a primary striking art. but, there are some techniques that can be more applicable to mma than other tma's.

Judo is too hard, u can't pool a submission if u don't master it, pros judo is very entertaining but my self i never got to that level where i am a wizard u can say, I am far from a wizard but i am with wizard with my right cross.

Q, why don't you enlighten us some as to why you think judo is the best base for mma?

What do you mean?

Pavel is as good or better at the straight armbar as any bjjer. Just doesn't have as many other options with it(maybe its not that efficient to learn them anyway with a strong top control????). Strong fast basics should not be underestimated. Especially in mma.
