The MW Conundrum 08/09

After the Okami fight, Anderson Silva needs to VACATE the MW Belt... and pursue the LHW belt. He has destroyed the MW division and needs a greater challenge.. this will also give Filho a chance to pursue the UFC MW belt after the WEC WW/MW/LHW divisions are dissolved.

Henderson vs Kampmann - Sept/Oct - See where Kampmann stands..
Filho vs Sonnen - Sept - Maybe Filho's last WEC fight...
Leites vs Quarry - Sept - Solid striker vs BJJ match...
A. Silva vs Okami - Oct - Get Silva's last real MW Fight out of the way
Leben vs Bisping - Oct - Fight everyone wants to see!
Franklin vs Almeida/Cote Winner - Nov/Dec - For Vacant MW Belt

and if all goes well..

Bisping** vs Filho - Jan/Feb - for #1 contender status

Franklin vs Henderson - Jan/Feb - FOTY Candidate

I definitely want this to be a 5 Round Fight!! It would be a mistake to throw this together during the Fall for a 3-rounder (how many of you thought that W. Silva vs Liddell should have been a 5 Rd Fight?)

**Some of you may not agree with Bisping being a contender but he flat out DESTROYED his last 2 MW opponents that were pretty game..

You are probably right on Bisping not getting a huge amount of love at the thought of him being #1 contender when Silva vacates.

If the Leben fight can be made again and he beats Leben, I would say at best he is in pole position to fight for the right to face Okami for the belt.

God knows how it will all pan out though.

The problem I have with Silva vacating the title is if he ends up getting beat at LHW.

Personally, I think that he would definitely have success at LHW, but if he doesn't, then what? Does he just just become another LHW thrown into the mix. Or does he drop back to MW? Then God forbid he lose in a comeback match at MW.

So, IMO Silva keeps the MW title!!!

All of those fights are very intriguing and I think everyone wants to see them, but I doubt that is going to be the schedule of the division. I wish I knew what the long term plans for Anderson Silva are. I have a feeling that they're going to have him jump around both divisions, which isn't going to be too tough for him (weight cutting, etc). Okami should be next on the list for Silva, but I'd still love to see Silva vs Bisping. And I can see a rematch for Hendo early next year as well. Only time will tell.

Bisping would not beat Leben thats for sure. Kampmann and Franklin are the #2 and 3 in the division right behind Silva. They should fight for the interm MW title.

except you leaving out some of the new comers who will be very good fighters. Guys like Maia the return of Almedia Leites and Palhares. Theres plenty of competition coming up the road for Anderson to face. Except this time there Bjj/grappler types Opposed to the striker types.

Why should he vacate 185??

He should keep that title for as long as he goddamn well pleases or until someone defeats him at that weight. And if he takes other fights during that time, more power too him. I'd love to see him mix it up with the elite of 205. Personally I think he is a terrible matchup for Rampage, we all know what 'Page can look like against a fighter with a great thai clench.

I don't think this si really a conundrum; it's just what you want to see happen.

Yea Silva would school Rampage. He just needs to get 2 wins at LHW before he should get a title shot. Irvin and then maybe the winner of Rashad Liddell.
