a lot of what dana white said was to soften the blow to the millions of fans who believed that shogun won the fight, but wasn't awarded it. dana's job is pretty much fan PR, and while he might be profane at times, he still answers to people that are higher than him, including the california state athletic commission. You can tell he was using formalities in the fight... looking off in the distance when he says that he tells his fighters "not to leave it to the judges". The bottom line is, if he doesn't make them happy, the UFC has problems, and the UFC doesn't need any more problems.
Shogun won the fight. Machida kept the belt. Everybody knows that.

The others say it was a draw or machida won. Oh and dana white and all the fighters??? dana said it was a tossup with scoring, his opinion was overall it looked like shogun won , but if he had to judge it it was 2 round each and one up in the air. And thats with people who have only watched the fight once with the commentary blaring. The fight was basically a draw and machida still has the belt, get over it.

You're the one that clearly isn't over it if you still feel the need to defend Machida's suspect win. The thing is 90 % of people in general think Shogun won the fight -- fans and fighters. What boards have you gone to? Machidas Balls Taste Great.com?

the funny thing is im a bigger fan of machida now than I was before the fight
as much as I think hes overrated I still respect his skill and style
i knew if machida lost his bandwagon would empty out, but i never expected the outcome of the fight to be so controversial
and now even more fairweather fans have jumped ship than if he had actually lost "officaly" that is
noone gave shogun a chance and he made machida look slow and IMO was the better fighter that night
machida may hold the belt, but shogun is the true champion
either way its gonna be one hell of a rematch

Machida won... but since you didn't see the fight, here's a review:

Randy also hasn't won a fight in over 2 years AND is being chased out of the Heavyweight division! He's just picking a fight because he doesn't have too many big matches left...
Also, Machida dominated and won!

wow, if thats all you got for a response, then its clear machida lost that fight, i like how the best they could do was show the same knee machida landed in the first round like 6 times as if showing it over and over would make it more effective
what a joke
*edit* i saw your post above.... its clear you are a noob and trying to reason with you is pointless...good day sir
randys opnion > yours

I must admit, after rewatching the fight, the first 2 rounds were much more tossups than I recalled them being... I still give Shogun the 4th and 5th, 3rd to Machida. We get a rematch asap anyway so no worries...

I don't think it should go in the books as a debacle (such as Rampage / Forrest or Hammill / Bisping). That being said, the vast majority of people think Shogun won. Even in your heart you question the validity of Machida's "win" because that's why you feel the constant need to continuously defend and validate Machida's "win."

have you seen the whole fight since last weekend? I like to try and watch these controversial fights until I see what the judges might have been seeing. It doesn't have much to do with the final decision, but there were 4 instances in the fight where more than 1 minute elapsed between any type of offensive manuever from either fighter. I don't care about it enough to argue if the judges were wrong or not, but maybe something needs to be done about all this stalling and lack of aggression.
Both fighters lost.
