What now for Tim Sylvia? Will he ever be the champ again?
Where is Tim Sylvia's career headed after this embarrassing loss? Besides being the most boring champion in contact sports since Boxing's John Ruiz, his history in the octagon is far from flawless. The Maine-iac is 3-3 in title fights and he is lucky the record is that good. In the 2nd fight with Arlovski he was knocked clean off his feet and should've been finished, but AA got sloppy, put his hands down and got caught with a lucky shot that ended his night. The 3rd fight with AA was horrendously boring! Neither man deserved to be fighting for that belt, AA was incredibly gun shy, scared to commit, and he completely abandoned his ground game. This nightmare of a fight ended in a split-decision win for Sylvia, who did nothing but put fans to sleep!
The only title fight Sylvia has deservedly won was against Monson, however it went all 5 rounds and was a better sedative than Valium. Then in Timmy's last title fight he was shut out by a 43 year old man who he outweighs by 60 lbs or better. Not only was he beaten, but he was out struck decisively by a wrestler.
So where does the unwanted Sylvia go from here? Does the UFC want Sylvia floating around in contention or do they want him to just go away? Should Dana feed him to Crop Cop for a title elimination shot, or is he risking to much with a Sylvia vs. Cro Cop match-up? Afraid that the unthinkable could happen which is Sylvia defeating Cro Cop even as unlikely as it seems.
What about giving Sylvia a tune-up fight with say, Cheick Kongo before he fights for the title again? To the general public that match-up would look like a tune-up, but to the hardcore fans it would look to be a trap fight. Despit Kongo's lone loss to Marerro, I think Kongo could beat Sylvia, this would send the "Maine-Iac" into a free fall in the division. It would help to bury him deep in the division, if this is what they so choose. It may also light a fire under Timmy's ass and force him to abandon his passive fighting style that has cost him his belt and in the process turned the fans against him.
Where does Sylvia go from here and will he ever be the champion again?

I'm pretty sure AA vs Tim III wasn't a split, but a unamious decision. I'm sure the UFC could entertain Tim with some fights until they figure out what to do with him.

This may be a good thing for him, no title shot right after his loss, let's see how hungry he is.

No more belt for Tim in the UFC.

The UFC is hellbent on improving their heavyweight division so it can rival Pride's so I really don't see Tim being able to compete with the new top tier talent in the UFC.
I really hope Vera stays in the UFC, even though his head is clearly up his ass when it comes to how much he thinks he should be paid. The guy is good, but he shouldn't exactly be making super star money yet. He makes for some interesting match ups.
I'd love to see him fight Assuerio Silva again. Cro Cop, Verdum, even Arlovski. Great matches.

Yes, I think you are correct. I believe it was a ud but was razor thin. Sylvia 1 point ahead on each card.

It'll be much harder.
He'll end up facing Gonzaga, Randy, Arlovski again and Werdum.
Not to mention Vera's final contractual fight is more than likely to be against Sylvia anyways.
