What makes a champion?
After reading a post a few days ago it got me thinking.
What makes a champion? Does having that weight class belt really make you the best in the world?
It seems to be the general thought is that whoever has the belt is the best in the world, someone raised a point that the belts change over to quickly and that there are so many upsets because no named people are getting a crack at the belt.
Personaly i think that a real champion is someone that accepts all fights and beats every opponent, they take each fight seriously and train hard for every opponent if they fight like this they'll get a belt eventualy.
Fighting to keep a belt is something else altogether, look how it ended for Tim Silva
Despite not having a belt i rate Shogun as one of the best fighters in the world at his weight class however he still needs to prove he can beat some fighters, so im not going to say he is the best because it's not proven.
Out of all the champions just now the only one id say is actuly a real champion is Fedor, only because he's faught anyone that's been put in front of him and won.
Im not saying he wont lose and im not saying there isnt someone better. I've just not seen them yet, he still needs to prove he's the best by beating Randy, AA, Tim, Monson because only then there can be no doubt.
I like Chuck but i never beleived he was the best LHW in the world, he's an amazing fighter and build for stand up but not the best in the world, that still needs to be proven. I hope he makes a come back.
GSP, Serra, AA, Tim Silva, Tito, Rampage, Chuck, Sean Sherk, Cro-Cop Are all good fighters better than most, but real champions?
Real champions?
Anderson Silva
Matt Hughs
Shogun
Fedor
Not because i like these fighters but because they show that star quality, real fighters. Not in it for the belt, they know that the belt will get awarded to them for their hard work.
Im not making any silly claims that these are the best fighters or i know who'll end up on top or who'll become "hall of famers"
just thinking out loud.
