What good can come of a Forrest Win (vs Shogun) for the UFC?

Think about it,

Forrest is already immensely popular with UFC fans. Yet most of them do not know shogun whatsoever. Now if Forrest were to beat shogun, unfortunately it would just seem as though Forrest walked through some " Brazilian" instead of a top title contender. I really don't see the upside for the UFC if Forrest wins. They lose the marketing and hype of shogun plus the feeling of invincibility fans could potentially have for shogun.

What good could come out of a Forrest win vs shogun for the UFC?

Well, I think it would help with Dana's hope that all the UFC fighters will walk through the Pride people, just for show. It's obvious Dana doesn't care too much about the Pride guys (minus Rampage), b/c he hasn't signed many of them. And even with Rampage, in spite of the fact that Rampage is the champ, he's not getting even close to the marketing Liddell was before he lost the belt.

I agree Shogun is next in line to lose next Saturday at the honky center in anahiem. I will be in Sec 224 where the fighters come out. I got my money on Griffin after seeing Ninja get KO. I see Shogun not doing well in the UFC like in Pride. I will say Shogun will be another CC in the UFC.

forrest becomes a legit fighter in the eyes of hardcore fans. i don't think people would complain if forrest is headlining some card if he beats shogun. he sheds that TUF label.

How could forrest possibly win? He can't even hit hard, he doesn't even have a strikers chance. Shogun dominates him in all aspects, it's disgraceful to assume otherwise. If forrest wins, the devil's going to have to invest in some good winter jackets.

So what you're saying is... since there's a possibility of Shogun losing and not becoming popular with the US fans, he shouldn't even bother fighting? And if Forrest wins... it doesn't matter since Shogun isn't well known in the US? lol

Unless Forrest won by total blowout and utter domination it would do nothing but harm to that division. I don't believe he can win the fight outside of a fluke haymaker that catches Shogun just right, and even that's a long shot considering he doesn't have much KO power.

If he did manage to topple Shogun it would almost have to be a fluke, so then you've killed an attempt at marketing a stellar fighter, and you have the winner who will almost certainly be trounced against the rest of the Top 10. And that's the reason I don't like great fighters making their debut against lower tier opponents. Anything can happen, and if it does the majority of noob fans won't understand or give any respect to a great fighter that has a bad night.

UFC is fucking up majorly by not marketing the PRIDE guys right, not hyping them like hell before their fights, and not putting them in with the best instantly. Part of me wonders whether Mirko would have taken fights with Couture, AA, and Sylvia more seriously than he did Sanchez, GG (who is the real deal, but who knew?), and Kongo.

When you set up an elite fighter with a "can" there are few potential benefits and several potentially devastating drawbacks. If the A-level fighter wins, he gets his record padded a bit and the fans see a blowout victory and a taste of what the guy is all about. If he loses, his stock drops considerably and new fans who don't know him won't give a shit about every seeing him again. And it's a very real possibility because all the pressure is on the elite fighter, the "can" that's being led to the slaughter only has to look halfway decent and throw a Hail Mary punch.
