there was actually pankration back in the day when the romans had the olympics as well as boxing and wrestling, so just saying ones older doesnt really win the agument, but boxing is still a more popular world wide and there there are alot more seasoned veterns with years of expierence. We havent seen any guys yet who have been participating in mma since they were 6 yet. MMA still has alot of fighters who are athletes from other sports such as wrestling, judo, ju jitsu, kickboxing, ect. we are just starting so see what pure mma fighers are, guys like rich franklin.
Right now boxing titles are fucked up, to many sanctioning bodies, rarley one recognized champion, so its difficult to even know who is the champ so not as prestigous as they once were. Unfortunaly MMA is becoming more and more like that with all the new organizations popping up, we will have to judge who's the best by rankings like boxing does. The thing is it easier in boxing to unify titles than it is IN mma right now. Hopkins was the undisputed middle weight champ hands down, before the two losses to Jermain Taylor (they were both draws in my opinion). Its all entertainment so who cares, whats important is whats more important to you and what do you like.

Mate, you have truely made my day with that!

And back to the topic, i find the major boxing titles (WBC and IBF) to be the more respectable of the fighting world... i'm sure this will change over the evolution of MMA, but at this moment, its boxing for sure.

I find a boxing title to be a greater achievement versus a mma title, mainly for the lack of history and depth in mma. Archaeological evidence suggests boxing existed as early as 4000 BC! Around 800 BC a mythical Greek ruler allegedly invented a form of boxing in which two men fought face to face, ultimately until one of them was killed.

Now in comparison with MMA history. Reportedly some no-holds-barred events did take place in the late 1800s, when a criminal was going to be hanged in the gallows and managed to break himself free,...this is when law men or vigilantes had to use a style known as "catch wrestling" to detain the criminal.

The vogue for "mixed match combat" such as "shoot" & Ground & Pound would soon die out after the first world war. It was during the war in which these tactics would cause severe casualties. As soldiers from either side would advance and "Shoot" into the trenches!! It has been estimated that up to one third of allied casualties on the Western Front were actually sustained in the trenches due to the "shoot" technique.

Despite the seesaw effect Mixed Martial Arts was having with western culture, it would gain some international exposure in the U.S. in 1993. In Japan in 1997, continued interest in the sport eventually resulted in the creation of PRIDE.

Class Dismissed:

Oh surprise. Another airhead trolling Pride nuthugger.

Sometime around 776 B.C., a little thing we now call "The Olympics" took place. Though it might not have been an "event" at the very first "games", a little thing called "Pankration" quickly became a recognized event. Pankration was a combination of wrestling and boxing in which anything was allowed except biting and gouging; kicking, strangling and breaking fingers were all permitted. In fact, one of the early champions was noted for his technique of breaking the fingers of his opponent one-by-one in order to get him to submit to defeat. Other "techniques" would probably be frowned upon today in the Greco-Roman style, but would be more in-line with MMA than boxing for sure (ever hear of Pancrase?). Given these actual facts, MMA has been around at least as long as boxing if in fact there is a single shred of truth in anything that spews from that vile hole under your nose.

So, you've trolled successfully but shown yourself to be a complete and utter dumbass in the process. Oddly, this seems to be a badge of honor nowadays for the new testosterone-lacking male. Better go braid those two hairs under your chin and STFU.

Class dismissed? You would make a shitty history teacher.

Anyway, I think that an MMA title is much more accomplished. A boxing title is just a title for boxing. An MMA title is a title for boxing plus everything else.

MMA just makes boxing look like handicapped fighting.

Easily one of the big promotions MMA titles. There aren't 19 of them for each weight class.

Obviously MMA.

Boxing to me is just like kids warm up for the 3 dimensional MMA game which has stand up, clinch, and ground
