Much like guys like Swick, although his wins have been decisive and entertaining, none of them have been top 10 competition, so it's hard to speculate.

That fight was years ago even before Swick joined AKA. I'm sure Swick would beat Leben now. But the guy before is right, it is hard to say Vera is a top 10 fighter. I'm not sure how much Mir/Silva have in their tanks to consider them big victories. They havent done much in a long time. This is why people here were pissed at Vera about his contract status because they wanted to see him against a Couture, Sylvia, Arlovski, etc. to see realy how good he is.

Nowhere near it. He hasn't done anything that warrants him a spot in the top 10 (worldwide).

I agree right now he is no where near top ten material. We need to see him fight more and better opponents before we can speculate on that

Agreed. Though he undeniably has potential for the future.

I don't think that's what the OP was asking. The question is, how would Vera do against the current top 10 ranked fighters?

Take a look at the MMAweekly HW top 10:

#1 Heavyweight Fighter in the World: Fedor Emelianenko

Vera loses

2. Mirko Cro Cop

Slightly better odds here, Mirko wins this 8 or 9 times in 10.

3. Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira

Same deal as Crocop

4. Josh Barnett

Vera loses. Barnett's good enough on the feet to deal with Vera's offense, his weight and strength as well as his superior grappling experience would be bad news for Vera.

5. Randy Couture

Good chance. Vera would possibly even be the favorite here.

6. Tim Sylvia

Excellent chance.

7. Andrei Arlovski

Good matchup. Arlovski the favorite.

8. Fabricio Werdum

Really close. Vera's JJ is probably good enough to nullify Werdum's offense on the ground.

9. Aleksander Emelianenko

Now there's a fight I'd love to see. Aleks would be favored by a smallish margin.

10. Mark Hunt

Bad matchup for Vera. Hunt would be a fairly heavy favorite.

Skill wise he's in the mix with the lower 5 in this list, he'd just be giving up a lot in the way of experience to all of them.
