Vera #1 contender IMO!
Focusing on the UFC's weak and lack luster HW division. How does the UFC think Monson is the number one contender. I know Sylvia has to defend his title against someone, but Jeff has two losses in the octagon. What about Brandon Vera? he has victories in everyone of his UFC fights and none of them went to decision's. IMHO I think that get's him number one contender status over Monson.

i agree 100%.. but i think the ufc would rather hype him a little more.. i think it would be in their best interest. let him fight buentello.. i think that would be a good one.

jeffs losses were a longgg time ago, and he is now riding a lengthy win streak
the people who vera beat combine for 1 win?? in the octagon, and at least 6 losses not including the ones he gave out
monsoon beat the guy that beat mir haha , cruz, maybe that means something?
vera still seems to green, why throw him in the deep end
sylvia will ko either one anyways

You cant say he has won all of his ufc fights like thats some impressive chore. its just been 3 fights. but he did submit the previous #1 contender, so i think that in its own should put him at the #1 status.
And i agree, him vs buentello would be good and it is in his and the UFC's best intrest to hold out on his title shot.

monson's two losses, one of them at LHW to the current LHW champ Liddell and the other to Ricco, the former HW champ, rodriguez. i don't disagree with you for thinking Vera deserves a shot but i think the UFC believes that sylvia will dismantle monson and in that time they will build up vera, who seems to be a crowd favorite now. and i'm sure if vera continues winning he will make a good main event to fight tim in which would probably draw more fans and buys than if they fought now.

Monson's chances seem little to none. He's only 5'7. How's he going to deal Sylvia's reach?

The UFC as of lately has been cheating alot of #1 contenders out of fights. ie...GSP
