Ultimate Fight Night thoughts
So tomorrow is the next Ultimate Fight Night. Looking at the card I am pretty excited. There are a lot of unproven, yet interesting fighters that don't yet deserve PPV exposure. Some of these guys are pretty hyped, and it will be good to see if they have the chops to fight in the big show or not.
Tito Ortiz vs. Ken Shamrock - I don't really care about this fight so much, but it's free, and I like to see Shammy get beat down, so whatever
Kendall Grove vs. Chris Price - I don't know who Chris Price is, but I was pretty impressed with Kendall on the show, then was disappointed on the finale, so it will be interesting to see how he has progressed since joining Team Punishment.
Ed Herman vs. Jason McDonald - Again, I don't know McDonald, but I don't like Herman, so it will be good to see if he can back up what he says or not. With McDonald and Price, it will be good to see some new talent and see if they have any future in the UFC.
Seth Petruzelli vs. Matt Hammil - I think this is Seth's first fight at LHW right? And it will be good to see if Hammil is as good as Tito claims. It will be interesting to see if he has improved his striking, and again, how much he has progressed since joining Punishment.
Nate Marquardt vs. Crafton Wallace - Both studs. Marquardt is a very talented fighter, and very strong. Crafton Wallace is also very good and very exciting. Should be a good fight.
Tony DeSouza vs. Dustin Hazelett - Who vs. who? I don't know either one, but hopefully one or both of them have some new fresh talent to bring to the UFC. Even though it is kind of pointless at this point in time to add more welterweights.
Rory Singer vs. Josh Haynes - Neither fighter impressed me on the show, but they have had some time to improve and now have access to much better resources. I hope they make it interesting. Haynes apparently has dropped some weight (which he desperately needed to). He seems to have a pretty good chin and heavy hands. Hopefully with a slimmer faster frame, he will be able to polish up his skills and be a threat at 185. Which I think is possible.
Thiago Alves vs. John Allessio - This should be a good fight. Alves is a solid fighter, and Allessio is also. I expect John Allessio to take this fight. I think we will see similar takedown defense that he showed against Sanchez, only this time he will be able to let his hands go a little more. He hits very hard for a 170 pounder. I would like to see him become a force at WW. There aren't really any great strikers in that division, and he could make things a little more interesting.
Marcus Davis vs. Forrest Petz - I think Marcus is a pretty solid fighter and haven't heard anything from him for a while. Forrest Petz is new to me, I don't know who he is. Should be interesting but like I said before, why so many new WWs?
It looks like there are quite a few interesting fights, but I would like to see them make more of an effort to get new HWs and LHWs. Hammill and Bisping could both make waves at 205 which could be interesting. But we really need some more in that division. And of course the HW division is on life support.
The UFC is great for recruiting new talent and giving the younger fighters a shot. And all in all, I think we will have a little better outlook of the future of the UFC after this event.
Man I love this sport!
